Default Nav/radio screen suddenly dimmed

Drove the Vette yesterday during the day. Screen was bright, could easily see the station buttons. Got in today, it is very dim, can barely see the time, stations, etc. I don't believe it is a function related to the instrument panel lighting, because I turned that all the way up with no change to the screen lighting.

Any ideas????

Were your headlights on? When headlights are on everything inside gets dim.

No headlights on. I am going out again in a few hours, I will see if it comes back up bright.

From the NAV/Radio Manual:

Screen Adjust
To adjust the contrast or brightness of the screen, touch SCREEN ADJUST at the bottom of the audio/adjust screen.

The following screen options may be adjusted from this menu:
K (Contrast): Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) to adjust the contrast. You will see the screen change. Touch OK to confirm the change.

! (Brightness): Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) to adjust the brightness. Touch OK to confirm the change.

AUTO: This setting automatically adjusts the contrast and brightness of the screen based on outside lighting conditions.

DAY: This setting leaves the screen in day mode. Day mode is best suited for daylight conditions.

NIGHT: This setting leaves the screen in night mode. Night mode is best suited for nighttime conditions.

SCREEN OFF: Touch SCREEN OFF to turn off the screen. Press the NAV, SRCE, or e/ z (audio adjust) hard key to turn the screen back on.

OK: Touch OK to save the changes and exit this menu.

SOUND: Touch SOUND to access the SOUND menu. See “Sound Menu” later in this section for more information.

I had the exact same thing happen today. The screen was very dim and I could barely make it out, especially with the normal sunlight reflections. I fooled around with the "screen adjust" functions and was able to bring the brightness up but it didn't look..."optimal." I had stopped the car at a dealer to take a test drive and when I came back to drive mine home, it seemed to be closer to normal. Never experienced this before.

I don't agree, headlights on would affect instrument panel also. Not just the Navigation Screen.

I did. That's why I said what I did. The OP said changing brightness on instrumental panel didn't change the Nav screen. It stayed dim. He also said the headlights weren't on.

He didn't say anything about his headlights in his OP, which is why I responded as I did. Besides, it was a year ago, I'm pretty sure he's resolved it by now.

He did in reply # 4 but I just noticed that was last year. You are right about it being resolved because he sold that one and was flying to Dallas to pick up one he just bought.

I assumed he was talking about his new Vette because I didn't notice someone had resurrected a year old thread.

Sorry about that.

I've had the same thing, and I'm very intimate with the brightness/contrast day/night auto-lights on/off controls. This is my second GS.

I've noticed if it has been sitting for a long time, several weeks at least, the screen may need some time to "warm up" over an hour or so. After that, it is "normal" for several days of use. Once it's sitting for more weeks, back to the dimmer mode, even when you set everything to DAY and bright/contrast FULL and headlights OFF. It's weird but it just "warms up". Give it a few days of driving and it subtley goes away, then you find your FULL-BLAST setting are too bright and washed-out, and you have to back-adjust them.

mikecronis,

Thanks for your post. Mine had been sitting in a relatively cold attached garage for at least three weeks. Maybe that was the cause, but I don't recall this ever happening before.
