For Your $35,000 a '10-'11 Grand Sport or '06-'07 Z06?
From what I'm seeing a '10 - '11 GS and an '06-'07 Z06 are very similar in price. For your hard earned $35k which would you take?
For the record I won't track much at all, if any. Just want a fast and loud car to enjoy. Reliability is a concern as well.
Why am I feeling a lot of Grand Sport votes here!?!?
Thanks.

I would not take anything less than $46 K for either of my GS C6

If you are not tracking the car then you don't need the purpose built Z06, and you won't be considering the ZR1. The choice of a GS or a base coupe/ convertible is up to you then for daily driving, or weekend driving.

If you want easy then GS will be easier without the issue of heads. If things ever go wrong with the motor an LS3 will be cheaper to fix or replace than an LS7 if you are just replacing it to stock spec. With a GS you can also remove the roof which is a big plus to some. You still share lots of benefits from the Z06 too. The brakes are the same. The body is the same except the front fenders obviously. If you get a manual its a dry sump LS3 that is hand built alongside the LS7 and LS9 motors and i may be wrong but believe it has a forged crank (maybe same as LS9?). It has a rear mounted battery also. Outside of the motor the next biggest difference I'd say is the steel frame vs the Z aluminum frame.
my vote based on your driving description is the grand sport. Great cars and VERY capable. the Z06 is just that much better but needs a little more attention with the heads IMO. Good Luck

For 31k you can get GS 2010

It's where I bought mine a few years back.

I was in a similar position to you a few months ago. Set a $40k budget for myself, but I was leaning towards the GS the whole way. For that kind of money I wanted the car to be as close to new as possible. The issue with z06 heads also gave me concern. I ended up with a 3lt 2012 GS with 980 miles on it. That was new enough for me.

I'd get an extremely low miles narrow body '08 or '09 w/Z51, buy some new wheels for it, and keep the extra $10,000 for something else.

I have had both vehicles and right now I have an 11 Grand Sport. I can tell you I miss my Z06 desperately. The place I get my Corvettes from currently has an '08 Z06 for sale which I am trying to figure out a way to dump this GS so I can get that Z and not end up in divorce court.
The GS is great, but the extra horses and lighter weight of the Z06 make a significant difference in performance.
Make sure to test drive both so you know for yourself which car is right for you. Also, talk to people who truly know about the LS7 head issue. It tends to get a bit inflated here.
Good luck and make sure to share photos once you pull the trigger.

So! I just dealt with this back in September. I bought a slightly modified 2008 Coupe.
Now, don't get me wrong. I loooooove my car. I really do! But, I can't do anything more to it besides adding boost. If I were to do it over again, i'd buy a Z06. No question about it.
I don't track the car. I cruise and I blast. My car is just as fast as a Z. Handles as good as a Z. Has Z06 brakes! But... the car already has an aftermarket cam. Adding heads isn't worth the money... especially since the motor needs to taken back apart. My only real option is boost.
the LS7 on the other hand... 500whp with boltons. That's nice and quick.

If taking the roof out on a nice day is important you need the GS. If not the Z06 feels much quicker.
For me, who does not track my car, the ability to tale the roof out all summer was important so I got a 13 GS with M6 transmission.
No regrets at all. Good luck.

I owned a 2010 Z06 and now have a 2012 Grand Sport.
I've been looking at 2012 and 2013 Z06s and considering trading.
My GS is an exceptionally nice car, but I miss the stock power of the Z06. I know I could make the GS just as fast, but I'm not one for doing much modifying to my cars.
Additionally, I've owned two Grand Sports. They're great cars, but they don't feel like a Z06. The extra power and lighter weight give it a different feel. I'm sure adding more power to a Grand Sport would be a lot of fun, but I'm not sure it would give that Z06 feel that's really pretty special.

for 46K both of them individually would be overpriced............
don't think you need to worry that neither is for sale, can't imagine finding a buyer for that amount would be too easy.................
just sayin'.................
someone can get a NEW C7 for close to that money.....and pretty sure they could get a "garage queen" used one too..............
