2013 Corvette Owners - Input Requested
We were looking into purchasing a local low mileage 2013 GS to replace one of our 2006 Corvettes, until we read the Consumers Reports Used Car Buying Guide which states the 2013 Corvette is one of their "Used Cars to Avoid" and includes it in their "Used Car Prediction Rating" of "Much Worse than Average" has given us second thoughts. Please chime in with your personal experience. Thanks in advance.
PS: We are Corvette people having owned 20 over the last 40 years.

I have a 2013 GS M6 and a 2012 GS M6 -- both have been problem free. owned the 2013 for close to 3 years now. Even if I was given a Corvette Expert mechanic free for a day -- I would take him golfing because there is nothing to fix cept the 60 mph low hum from the cowl now and then. Could be the Chrome wheels make them more reliable.
It is a great car and feels like a great car -- both city and highway.
My advice --Just don't Mod it. -- leave it alone and just drive it.
Cheers - and PM me if you have specific questions on the 2013.

I've had my 2013 Grand Sport for a little over a year and put 18K miles on it. Trouble-free! Took trips to Louisiana and to the Corvette museum, drag raced it in Spearfish, SD. So much better and more comfortable than my 07 but gas mileage not quite as good because of the lower rear end ratio. Still gets 27 on trips.

2013 would be my 1st choice when buying a C6! It's the last year of a long production run. I bought my 13GS new and have had zero issues in just about 4yrs of ownership. It's an amazing car I plan to keep for a very long time. Go buy that 13GS!!

Cheers mate. Consumers gave no specifics, but, after thinking about it, I wonder if the report was based solely on the problems with 2013 427 Collector Edition convertible?

Mine is a 2012. Not much difference to the 2013. Bought it new as a daily driver. Now has 55 k miles on it. Had the following repairs done.
300 miles defective battery
500 miles defective serpentine belt
3500 miles harmonic balancer failed
22000 miles water pump failed.
35000 miles headlight lenses replaced were delaminating
Thats it. All covered by warranty. So no major issues

Problems with the 2013 427 convertible??? What problems?
Only issue I had with my 427 was a spark plug lead coming loose. Runs strong and never an issue with the over-inflated head issues.

13 GS M6 here. Had it for over two years. The brake master cylinder was replaced under warranty as it was squeaking. haha. Seriously. That's it. Daily driven, road trips etc..
Had no idea that some consider it the "year to avoid". Now I've gotta get rid of it. DAG NABBIT!
Ohhh! Also, the DS visor mirror came out of the visor. Replaced with OEM part from eBay. Weird as I never use the mirror. . So I see why it should be avoided.

I had a 2013 4LT manual coupe. Currently have a 2013 3LT manual convertible.
Only issue I ever had was the cowl buzz on the coupe. Fixed under warranty.

Here is Consumer Reports brake down of the Corvette. Doesn't look bad, gets an average rating. (Red is good/black circles bad/clear circle is average) Can't find where they say to avoid 13's. They do say the 15's are to be avoided.

I've had my 2013 GS conv for a year and 7,000 miles, no problems.
As far as Consumer Reports goes, I stopped reading their stuff about 40 years ago when I saw that small cars were doing badly in the ratings . . . because they were small.

I have a 2013 with a little over 12000 miles and no problems. I can't imagine these being much different than others as they have the same engine and trany and many other of the same components.
I like mine.....go buy it

Chevrolet must not PAY to advertise in their reports. These publication reports are like government reports and findings. Fake or questionable info?
You have the best owner survey right at your fingertips here. Plenty of people will report issues with their Corvettes regardless of the year.
Remember when one of the magazines voted the Renault Alliance the "Car of the Year"? 1984 I think? We worked on plenty of those. Biggest POS excuse of a car ever.

Go to the page preceding the "Vehicle Reliability" section that contains all the ratings (page 84 in my magazine). Look under "Used Models to Avoid", "Corvette '05, '13".

Bought mine new in Sept 2012. I now have 35k miles, thousands of those miles are on the race track (road courses), and it hasn't missed a beat. Great car.
