Maybe I misunderstand what you're saying. William Durant built carriages and wagons, then went into the automobile business and reorganized Buick in 1904 to be one of the largest auto companies. In 1908 he created GM, by bringing Buick and Olds together, followed by Oakland, Cadillac, and lots of parts companies. Fast forward through his deal with Louis Chevrolet and creating GM Corp to be VP and Pres. when Nash resigned to late 1920 and a divorce with GM, when he started Durant Motors. That ended in 1932 and several of his buildings were purchased by GM, but not for production of the Durant cars. Were you under the impression that GM bought out Durant Motors with the intention of continuing the brand?

As I recall he did it for a long time and used the materials in building his house. Also, if memory serves, I believe he got caught. But there were zillions of things snuck out that were not caught.

On a regular basis, my buddy and I would tell each other: "This cannot last." It took a few decades, but we were right. As the old saying goes, "If something cannot go on forever, it won't."

A great book, the contents of which are probably unbelievable unless you worked for GM at some point, is: "On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors," by the infamous John DeLorean, who rose to the number two (?) position at GM and quit.
Although I worked for the Blue Oval, very similar work ethic applied. Toyota, VW, Mercedes are building plants in the US, GM is closing plants.

Aside from the work ethic, or lack thereof, they priced themselves right out of a job. It also happened to the baker's union my dad worked for, although he was retired by then.

​​​​​​Nobody listen to this guy. He's clearly lost. ACDelco absolutely 100% make GM OEM parts. There's plenty of parts on vehicles that come outta the factory with ACDelco parts. ACDelco is NOT and aftermarket supplier for GM. The do make aftermarket parts for other car companies. They are AFTERMARKET because ITS NOT GM.

The world is full of stupid people, that's why one starter is $100 and the other is $300. Obviously the only difference is the price, yea right. unbelievable. I tell ya what I'm soooooo glad I do my own work, because if I had to depend on others to take care of my car.........

ACDelco 337-1201 Professional Starter $92.40.

ACDelco 323-1640 GM Original Equipment Starter, $311.63.

When I go to a Top rated dealeship on Corvettes on this forum they tell me there are two kinds of parts for brakes for Corvettes. The lower cost they use in advertisements for regular vehicles then there are the premium parts they use on the Corvettes that they don't use on the regular passenger cars. Can't remember if it's AC Delco or Delphi, Remy or??? but there is another major brand/name..that Chev. GM uses.

Like their BOSE stereos if they aren't made by BOSE in 2005 there is another company (I forget) who makes the headunit on the Corvette. The speakers don't have any markings of any kind as to the brand.

GM offers a harmonic balancer for my 2005 Vette GM part no. 12563791 for $183.64. Rock Auto offers a AC Delco part no. 12635852 for $142.79. If they are both OEM why 2 different parts and part numbers? Which one came on my car?
The answer is, the GM part is sold by authorized dealers and is what came on my car, The AC Delco part is sold by auto parts stores which make it an after market part even though it may be made by the same manufacture and to the same specs.
