If your friend already bought it what would a carfax change? This is normally something someone would do prior to buying the car. Plus unless it was in an accident that was reported to carfax, it would not show up. A car being "hammered" or abused would not show up on the car's history report.

AFAK, every carfax costs money to access. Sounds like you need the carfax not for making a decision, but for something else. Maybe an offer to pay someone for a carfax would have been nice.
