I've been on this forum for a long time.
Whenever I use to read that, "I finally got the wife's permission" to buy a Corvette, I would think what kind of panty waste wussy has to ask permission?
Now, we have a thread asking what you had to give up......
The only think you should have to give up is the price of the car.
I'm beginning to think the testosterone level in the average American male is about 12 !

But since my wife and I have been married for almost 50 years and get along pretty damn well, I have to say that YES I do run things by her that I want to buy, ultimately its my decision but in a 50/50 relationship its only common courtesy. I also buy things WE CAN AFFORD, staying within ones means is my motto so if one thing has to go for another then so be it, we cant all be Ritchie Rich boys.

I bought the '09 Vette for cash at the local Chevy store. I negotiated them to $28,500 and, with CA tax and, it came to a little under $31,000. I then sold the following:
2013 Nissan Altima 3.5L V6, 9700 miles - $19,000
2000 Camaro Z28 LS1, 141,000 miles - $4,500
2004 GMC Safari 4.3L V6, 78,000 miles - $7,500
So I sold them for a total of $31,000 which was a little more than I paid for the Vette.

In response to the posts about getting the wife's permission, I didn't have to worry about that because my dear wife had passed away the year prior. In fact the Altima and the Safari were her cars and I didn't need them anymore. I'd trade all four of them to have her back with me. And, while I wouldn't have had to ask her permission, I probably wouldn't have bought the Vette anyway because it's impractical. She always put up with my car craziness, and I had to talk her into buying the '69 L36 427/390hp coupe.
She didn't like Corvettes. She drove the '69 once and absolutely hated it. The clutch was too heavy for her. She was a little gal.

BTW, I've seen the pik of your '69 here before. I've wondered since then: It is obviously not a ragtop, yet your name . . . ?

I've had the '69 Mustang convertible for 18 years. I bought it from a little old lady in 1998. I restored it and still show it regularly. The old girl has 30 trophies in that time. I bought the '69 C3 in 2003 and sold it at the Russo & Steele Monterey auction in 2010. I showed the Vette for three years after I had it repainted and it took 15 trophies in that short time in the C3 Stock class. Aside from the paint, the car was all original with matching numbers and low miles. Great car, but I needed the money at the time.

1969 Pontiac GTO that I bought new and took delivery of on Dec.3.1968, at the ripe old age of 19, AND a 1978 Vette. I owned the GTO for 40 years, and it was absolutely pristine. I owned the Vette for 20 years, and it was very clean.
The above 2 gals allowed me to buy my '08 brand new.
I had many awesome years with the 'oldies', but the two of them combined could never give me the elation I get whenever I get into my C6.
I have never looked back. The Vette rocks.
Enjoy the ride, it's the best

With the exception of buying my 1989 in 2002 for building an autocross car, I have been able to buy a new one every 10 years and I get to keep them.nI bought my 93 Ruby LT1 6sp ZO7 in 1993, my 03 ZO6 in 2003, and my 13 Grand Sport 6 SP manual in 2013. My next buy will be a 2023 and that will give me 40th, 50th, 60th & 70th anniversary year model.
When I sold my 62 that was a big mistake and I learned from that lesson, never sell the toys.

Well I did sell my 350Z but it was going to go anyways, I'd had it for 13 years and wanted more. Other than that it was just cash earning less than 1%. Plus I got a great 5 day road trip with my brother driving it home from AZ. We hadn't done anything like that together for over 30 years.

Traded an 05 Precision Red coupe for the 06 Z06, and a little cash to boot. That was my 10th Corvette. The first one, I sold a 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix that I absolutely loved and bought a 1973 Corvette coupe. Too many too put in here, but its been fun. I just turned 62 and bought my 73 when I was 25.
