Where do I buy a key fob battery?
So where is the best place to get a key fob replacement battery? And with that asked, will any 3v flat disc battery that fits work?
Recommendations as to the best option welcomed.

Never mind
BTW, do lithium batteries run down while still in the original packing (not sure how old this one may be)?

Go to the fob store.
On a serious note...take the fob apart. The battery has a number on it. Most are CR2032. Wal-Mart in the jewelry department. Usually a display sittin on the counter or ask someone. Make sure you put it back in correctly. There is a top and a bottom of the battery. Pay attention to how it comes out of the fob.
Yes, they do go bad in the package.

Try to purchase a CR2032 battery that does not have a rough negative side to it. Apparently that type of battery sometimes does not make good contact in the FOB and one may get FOB errors. . . .I believe that the Duracell and Energizer batteries have smooth negative sides.

And the + side of the battery goes down when installed in the fob.

Heat and lithium don't go well together. Toss it in the glove box or if its still in the package, toss it in the storage bin in the trunk with spare tools.

Just buy batteries at a well visited store, this way you are assured of good turn over and a fresh restocking.
Although I have come across retailers that buy older stock to save a few pennies, not speaking batteries here but it could be.
