C6 is 5" shorter, 1" narrower, and 1" less height.

1LT, 2LT, and 3LT are the options package designations for all C6s except model year 2005. They vary in content from year to year.

2005 option packages were 1SX, 1SA, and 1SB. 1SB is comparable to 3LT.

C6 also has the first exposed headlights since 1962.

Base 2004 (C5) coupe has 350 HP with a 346 cu. in. engine, base 2005 (C6) coupe has 400 HP with a 364 cu. in. engine.

Buy the newest model year you can afford. Try to avoid MY 2005 & 2006.

Difference is engine, transmission, interior, exterior. Other than that, they are the same. No particular year to buy, whatever you can afford. Vast improvements in various areas from C6 to C5. Go drive one and see for yourself. One could write for a few hours on the differences.

The "C" designations differentiate between generations, or major body style changes. Each generation looks much the same, or to an untrained eye, identical. Presumably "C" stands for Corvette.

C5 ran from 1995-2004 model years, then in 2005 there was a major body style change that ran through 2013. The latest body style is the C7, which looks a lot like a Camaro.

Tony, I think you can learn a lot more about Corvettes, a lot quicker, if you go to the FAQ pages. You will find just about everything you need to know there. If you can afford around $20K or more, I would recommend a C6. Often, you can pick up a higher mileage C6 for around $18K. Do your research before you buy, or you are likely to find out you wanted something different, too late.

Go to the library and get a book on the history of Corvettes. I'm sure you will find all you want to know.

Uh, not quite. C5 ran from model year 1997 through 2004. 1995 and 1996 models were still C4s.

I forgot to mention that the "1LT", "2LT", "3LT" are RPO (Regular Production Option) codes for option packages.
