Default scraping on any incline

I am interested in buying a C6 but have noticed that even on the most modest incline, the front of the vehicle scrapes the entry into a parking lot, slightly elevated driveway or speed bump. What can be done to fix this if I do buy a C6. Thanks

the part that usually scrapes is the lower air dam under the vehicle............

pull in on an angle, making certain ride height is correct help some but more a normal condition............ parts are plastic and replaceable for relatively inexpensive costs....... some have even removed them partially due to this concern

If it's the air dam scrapping don't worry about it. It's not hurting anything.

I don't know if are looking at one in particular and it has been lowered but it is just the air dam scraping and isn't going to hurt anything and is easy to replace if they get too damaged.

Default Take it real easy...

Go real slow and at an angle when you see the really bad looking ones. Yes the first part to scrape is the plastic pieces but you can also hit the those two metal pieces coming down from the frame. Mine are pretty scraped up. I have seen a cover for these metal pieces.

I took the outside plastic pieces off and just left the center piece on to remind me once and awhile to take it easy.

Besides what already has been mentioned above.

1. Keep tire pressure at 30 psi cold to maximize clearance.
2. Make sure the front spoiler is not hanging, tighten screws.
3. Raise front end of car by turning front lowering bolts clockwise a few
turns, even 1/8th" can make a difference. The corvette normally
sits with a slight rake, not straight.

Note: Make sure you do not damage the two radiator supports, they are made of aluminum and if hit hard enough they can break at the welds. See Redvette2 in post #5.

The front spoiler is designed to take forward scrapes, just be careful backing up and scraping, that is were you can tear it off.

I have a 2008 with 74k miles and I still have the original front spoiler. I have only replaced the push in rivets that hold the three spoiler sections together. I lost them while backing up.

It is the rubber/plastic air dam that scrapes. If you don't like it , it can be taken off. It might reduce some air flow if that is a trade off you can live with.

My Z06 scrapes occasionally and its lower than a standard C6 - but has never done any serious damage - at least not any you can notice. But I am careful and go at an angle for steep grades. A standard C6(if not lowered) should not be a problem.

The spoiler scraping I can deal with, but that solid bang of the front radiator supports hitting pavement make me cringe.

My '08 base does that too. Even when I back out of my almost-flat driveway, on an angle, one wheel at a time, extremely slowly. I haven't gotten down to take a look at those metal supports, but if they're scraped it was by the p.o. as I haven't heard anything but soft plastic scrape.

Our E-Class does the same thing only it's not a separate replaceable piece, it's integral to the front clip

I've got a pretty good slope on my driveway so when I bought my car I had to have roller wheels installed on the lower radiator support brackets just to get in my driveway. I took off the plastic air dam corners, but left the center section on to still help direct air up into the radiator. Also had to have the support tig welded once, but I was not sure if it happened to the previous owner. What I like about this is the rollers can be used anywhere it is needed. Plastic skids can be glued on to the support also.

I have a 2011 GS Convertible that I switched to from a 2009 Base Convertible. The GS sits lower in the front and scrapes a lot.....where the 2009 Base hardly scraped at all. The GS just sits different and you have to be careful when you get to dips and inclines. Catching some of them at an angle helps. So far, when looking under it, the air dam is what is scraping, but the noise sure makes you cringe...

Hey!! If you think you drag the bottom of your car on an incline, I found this after the St. Petersburg Indycar race last week in the trash behind the Andretti camp.

If the two push pins are missing you should replace them. I noticed my gas mileage went up by fixing front air dam.

My GS was lowered over 2" in the front when I bought it, nearly undriveable as far as I was concerned. Getting it set back to factory spec ride height got rid of 99% of the scraping. Still have to be careful around driveway entrances and speed bumps but it's no worse than some other sports cars I've had and better than some.

I've found my 09 z51 scraped more than my 10 gs or 12 gs.

The corvette is super easy to lower or lift though. A couple of bolts to turn and you can scrape on the thought of a penny in the road, or turn it intinto a z71 package corvette. I'm exaggerating a bit, but it's very easy to adjust compared to most cars.

Hum: My is about the same, all depends if I'm going into the wind. They do cause some drag and I took my off about 7 years ago.
