Confirm oil filter right for dry sump Grand Sport?
Went to get oil and filter to do first oil change on my 2010 Grand Sport with dry sump. Book shows AC Delco UPF-48R as filter to use. Went to my usual parts place....they didn't show a UPF-48R....just a UPF-48. Said they are a major AC Delco distributor but had no record of the 48R.
Ended up grabbing a K&N HP-1017 oil filter, as it was listed for Z06 with dry sump. Can someone just confirm 100% this is the right filter for me? Is the UPF-48R still made or changed part number? I was searching on my phone in the store and seeing that AC Delco part number being unavailable on some websites.
Thanks!

I think I read somewhere that the UPF 48 was used in the early ZO6. The UPF48R was used in the ZR1. Its a black filter. Supposed to be a stronger filter so it can hold up to the extra oil pressure. I use The UPF 48 in my ZO6 because that's what was in it when I changed the oil.

At least 2.5 times as good. The E is a cheap POS I would not put on anything and certainly not a dry sump LS3 with it's very high oil pressure on cold start.

Pick up either a Mobil1 M1-113 or a K&N HP-1017 at your parts store. They are a premium filter(heavy duty construction with thicker walls and end plate) and are the same as the ACDelco UPF48R.

The LS3's that had a wet sump have the same oil pressure as the dry sump LS3's and retained the PF48 oil filter as they were built in another plant.
There were over 22,000 Z06's that came from Bowling Green with PF48's installed and none of them had a filter failure. If there had been a problem GM would have issued a notice to their dealers(and owners) to not use the PF48 and to use the UPF48R on all those 2006 through early 2009 Z06's. GM never did as there was never a problem with bursting PF48 oil filters.
I have an early build 2009 Z06(built June 2008) and it came with a PF48. I change my oil and have always used either the Mobil1 M1-113 or the K&N HP-1017 filters as they both are a premium filter. What I save doing my own oil changes more than pays for the extra coin that the premium filters cost.
If I wanted to save some coin then I would use the WIX 57060 filter.

I've been using a PF48 ever since I got my Z06, 5 years ago. Never have had a filter problem, oil leak or anything. My car also makes 525 rwhp. Call me cheap or whatever. I will keep using it.

My '13 GS is a dry sump. Gauge is 0-80. When I start it in the morning especially after a chilly night that sucker stays buried on 80 for a while. Even as it's warming up when I give it just a little gas to get going that gauge goes right back to 80. When it is fully warmed up it sits around 38-40 at idle and consistently hits the 80 under medium to hard acceleration. I don't remember my '12 base coupe ever doing those numbers.
