Default Lightning McQueen Supervette Story

A brief run down on the car.

This car started it's life as a 2005 Corvette. I graduated High School in 2005, with the goal of buying one. Straight out of high school I went to college full-time while working full-time in retail management. In 2006, After saving every paycheck that didn't go towards school I was able to buy a Corvette C6. I had my mind set on a fully loaded precision red coupe! I purchased the car and enjoyed it for years to come! In 2010 I met my wife, we shared tons of stories and made lots of memories in the car.

2011 came around and I set my eyes on a F1C Procharged Z06! We sold the c6 to a fellow in the Air Force and enjoyed the Z06...2 years later I was playing on the internet and came across a 2005 Corvette in Precision Red, thinking to my self I don't NEED another car but it would be neat to have a C6 like the one that my wife and I shared so many memories in. I contacted the seller to only find out this was in fact MY original C6! He drove it for 2 years putting 1,200 miles on it. The wife and I decided this was a sign, we made arrangements to buy the car back from the same gentleman we had sold it to previously! When the car arrived here I noticed he never changed the addresses or settings we had saved in the factory navigation! That year we decided to sell the Z06 and turn this 2005 into "our dream"... after 3 years time we had installed (Supervette ZR8X wide body kit, forgestar wheels, custom leather seats, full 2011 z06 drivetrain with stage 4 clutch, 414ci stoker making over 600HP, coil over suspension... and the list goes on and on... the original components were changed, however the car still maintained its "soul".

My wife and I offer countless hours to many charities. We have 2 Very near and dear charities we help. The Ferrari Kid Organization http://www.theferrarikid.org ( an organization founded 4 years ago by Manny Diotte. Their mission is to offer sick kids fighting cancer and other illnesses an opportunity to take their mind off hospitals/chemo/etc by giving them rides in Ferrari's and making them feel like a celebrity for a day! ) The other charity De Novo Foundation http://www.denovofoundation.org ( an organization responding to the tremendous needs of the homeless and marginalized in our community and their dreams of a better tomorrow, the mission of the De Novo Foundation is to facilitate the collection and distribution of resources to those individuals who have a clear vision for a better future. )

As the Supervette project neared completion we were thinking of a way to put smiles on people's faces. We decided since we're all kids at heart why not use a theme from Pixars movie Cars ". We had a wrap designed (by Rockin Monkey of San Antonio, Tx ) for the car based on the movie character portrayed by Owen Wilson called Lightning McQueen. The car now makes appearances at local children's events, hospitals, and even offers rides to some kids who haven't seen the outside of a hospital in months. Seeing the tears in the parents eyes of the kids smiling who some haven't smiled in a long time is something we cherish! One very special family whom we have had the pleasure of spending time with has 2 children fighting illness. Madeline and Godric- are more than just sister and brother. They also share the fact that they both have a rare immune deficiency. In their case it is not the same one so they have totally different treatments to try and keep them healthy. Madeline has hypogammaglobulinemia where she only has half of her immune system. She goes in for monthly IVIG treatments to replace her immune system for a few weeks. These treatments cost anywhere from six thousand to twenty thousand dollars a treatment depending on the demand for IVIG. IVIG is created by over 1000 people going in to give blood so that platelets can be extracted. So she is relying on over 1000 people a month to give of themselves. Godric has Hyper IGE which is only found in about 1 out of 50,000 kids born a year. Hyper IGE is an over active immune system so the body is actually attacking itself. Without treatment most kids only live to about 19 years old. He has started low dose chemo treatments at just 11 months of age. Stories like these and seeing these kids smile makes everything worth while, truly putting life into perspective.

This is why my wife ( Kelsey ) and I have built this very special car... a car with " a soul " and a purpose!

Great story. I had a Precision Red 05 coupe also. Traded it for the Z06. Loved that car. Don't see too many of them. They discontinued Precision Red in October 2004. Only 1304 total cars in Precision Red.

Fantastic job!
Nice to hear of someone with a "base" Corvette that actually enjoys the mods AND puts them to good use.
I really enjoyed reading about it. Please consider writing about your experiences with the car and the kids. Thank you.

Way to bring a tear to a grown mans eye, good of you to consider other the health and quality of life of others. It's one thing to know what you've got, and it's another to figure out how to use it to improve the world in some way or another. Keep up the good work.

Awesome story. I'm surprised I haven't seen the car around San Antonio. A couple of years ago I saw this truck at a car show in Buda, Tx.

I love the story - I got my 2011 GS as a tribute to my wife who was brought down by leukemia last year suddenly after 3 years of IVIG treatments. Color and options we had always talked about.

You and your wife are two very special people. Kudos to both of you for the work you're doing to bring a little happiness into the lives of children experiencing the worst life has to offer. God Bless both of you. My daughter-in-law works at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, so I hear many heart-rending stories from her and understand your motivation well. By-the-way, I have a 2006, Monterey Red Corvette that was a first-week production car and have no intentions of ever selling it. I have two granddaughters that love the car and would like to have it someday. Haven't figured this one out yet.

A few more pictures, this weekend we should have quite the turn out, Saturday we're hosting a birthday for a 5 year old ( in fact it's Godric ) from my story above! Words simply can't describe the feeling of joy that we get from seeing these kids smile!!

one of the little boys brought his remote control La Ferrari, we had the photographer snap a picture for him! I think it turned out GREAT! Very creative! Jeffery loved the picture of it!

Cute little boy; same age as one of my granddaughters. I believe we all have the same question: Why? Keep up the good fight.
