RIP Atomic Lady
It is with great sadness I formally announce the untimely passing of my first true love (don't tell the wife).
March 23 we were sitting calmly in a line of traffic. As usual she was quietly purring just waiting to launch. For some reason I looked into her rear view mirror and to my utter horror I saw hurtling toward us a VW bug. As if the appearance alone of that unattractive beast was not enough it was clear she was heading towards my lovely (just washed) lady and I with total disregard of the traffic stopped for several cars ahead of her.
As she rapidly closed I wondered if this meant the end of processing my wife's honey do lists. The distance closed rapidly. The bug was preparing to strike. We had nowhere to run and no way to fight back so we held on for the inevitable.
Suddenly, with a loud boom she stung us. Her attack was so strong it threw my lovely Atomic lady and into another German creature in front of us, the dreaded 550S. My beautiful girl pushed under the 550's bumper (probably what saved me) and threw that beast into a battered Ford Focus. Shrugging off the hit the Focus took his wrath out on a Camry just ahead. All went quiet.
I got out, a bit dazed as the driver of the bug jumped out sobbing and repeating "it's all my fault". I got the young lady calmed a bit and examined my Atomic love. It looked superficial but, in any case where one looses a great love, I could sense our affair was over.
The 550 driver and I were both shaken by the harm done To my love as he remarked he had always wished for the affection of such as mine. When all was done, she valiantly gave me one last ride home.
The next day she went into intensive care where she stayed until Friday. I had to let her go that day.
As fate would have it though I was introduced on line to another fair maid of the C7 family. As I purused her profile (on Autotrader). A beautiful young thing who had barely been around the block, she immediately caught this gentleman's eye. I pondered our future together over a bourbon and cigar. I realized suddenly I could love again and this was meant to be! Yes I must have her! (The kid doesn't really need to finish college does she?)
I charged gallantly into the fray! She needs a firm hand (7 speed manual) I told her protector! I put my best foot forward and just like that she was mine. A shy young thing she will be ready for her debut late next week. She no longer need depend on the kindness of strangers.
All because someone wasn't paying attention to the road. Hopefully my back will eventually feel good enough again to enjoy her company. I bring this to you, dear forum friends, for few seem to understand the depth of this old gentleman's emotions. I knew though, you all will.
Happy Easter my friends.

Cars can replaced, your health another story, hope you are feeling better, and the back is lot better.
Time to get good lawyer, and perhaps a C7 could be in your future.
Happy Easter.
Feel luck you walked away.

Great post! A sad story, but glad all turned out well. I also had a love interest with a 2008 Atomic Orange Z06 at one time. I was more than smitten. However, like you I was able to recover and move on.
Any pictures of the damaged car, and of the new one?
Again, wonderful post-----one of the best I have ever read.

Glad you were not seriously hurt and wish you a speedy recovery. Saddens my heart for your loss due to someone's total lack of responsibility.
The great news is that we can recover from such a loss and find a new one. Best of luck with the C7.

Glad nobody in your car was hurt badly ...
With that said ... My guess is that young lady was texting at the time.
I was going to say that she was more than likely drunk or on drugs, but I am thinking 'Texting' for sure !
Damned cell phones !

Glad she admitted responsibility---definitely not the norm today since even texting or calling is considered a "right" to be done in a car even if it involves an accident.
"It wasn't MY fault! I HAD to respond to the BFF's text, I just HAD TO, y'know?"
Also glad you're all ok save for a couple of aches which hopefully will go away soon. On to the next CAR!

So I guess that the insurance co. totaled your car? If not, how does the trade work out? Get much less for the trade so they can repair it?
Hope your back is feeling better!

Ya know the worst part of your story is that you went over to that ******* who hit you to try to "calm her".
That bitch should have been beaten into a triple coma!

I would bet anything that she was texting. Obviously distracted. I wouldn't have been so kind. My Italian temper would have gotten the best of me I'm afraid. But believe me, I would accept nothing less than full replacement from her insurance company.
Glad nobody got hurt for sure.
By the way, you have a way with words.

Safety Car
This is what I do on my motorcycle, and my cars: I keep my vehicles in gear with my foot on the clutch EVERYTIME I come to a stop. I watch my rear view mirror for any vehicles coming up behind me. I will tap the brake pedal a few times to get the vehicles attention and watch that they are slowing down. When they stop, I can put the vehicle in neutral and wait for the green. If they don't slow or stop, I am prepared to make an exit where ever I can. It's automatic with me. I don't just sit there hoping I won't get rear ended.
It's a very good habit to get into.
