What did i find on my garage floor?
Just found this broken bolt head on my garage floor this morning - no work done on the car recently.
Anybody have any idea where this could be from? It was below the middle section of the car.
No new noises or any other indications in the car.

It's rusted badly, so it shouldn't be from the C6, unless you drive it in the snow.salt, etc.
It could have been picked up from the road, and deposited itself on the spring. It fell out on the garage floor. If your bolts are intact on the front deflector, then it's a crapshoot to where and if it belongs on the C6.

Thanks Paul, mine gets driven in the salt occasionally but you are right it does look pretty badly rusted to be from the C6. There is a number "10.9" on the bolt head which is not visible in the second picture.

I really don't think it is off your car. But its hard to speculate what it is. No way of telling.

Grade 10.9 signifies a high strength bolt . Similar to the more common grade 8.
Not sure if automotive manufacturers use high strength bolts but I would hope so.
Are there any other bolts on your car that are in a similar condition from road salt?

Oil pan plug?
Edit: can you put a coin next to it so we can scale it? A quarter and dime or penny would help.

If any consolation, it's better that way than if there were an inch of bolt on it too. At least there'll be something to get ahold of.

Knowing the size would help. My screen makes it look like it'd need a 2" socket.
If it's not metric, it's not from your car. Any buddies (practical jokers) at your house recently?

After reading the possibility of the manifold bolt, I took a look and I believe this might be the culprit (it is very bright so I tried take as clear a picture as possible - tough to get in close) on the driver's side.
What is the consequence of this (I am not mechanically inclined)?

After giving it some thought, Here is a thread with the exhaust manifold showing with a broken bolt, and all that rust on the manifold. Looks very similar to the rust on the OP bolt head.

Well the exhaust manifold needs to be taken off to remove the broken piece. I would put on a new gasket as well if the manifold is off. You can get a new bolt from GM. If you leave it alone I suspect eventually it'll develop an exhaust leak (if it didn't already).

It would drive me crazy knowing, so I would personally remove the exhaust manifold, remove the bolt stud and replace with a new bolt.
You should have enough left on the bolt to be able to get a hold of it to remove it from the engine. A mechanic can do this in no time at all.
Good Luck

Thanks guys - is an exhaust leak a nuisance or is it detrimental, i.e., is this an emergency/urgent?
The consequence is that the exhaust manifold gasket is no longer being compressed at that area, so you may get an exhaust leak, which you will hear as the exhaust and valve sounds will be louder. You may be lucky, and it may not be of any consequence at all.

Left alone it will not only sound like an old farm truck, but the exhaust gases will erode the port to the point you will need to replace the head. As jft stated, it's not a 911, but sooner than later fix is at hand.
