Ohshift, I thought that if you live in the great state of Texas, these things don't happen?

Maybe because you did not respond to some follow up questions.

I guess that's because every question you asked could be answered simply by checking with the DMV, not a forum message board. You're only going to get opinions to those questions, not facts. I can see you now in front of the judge, "but the guys on the Corvette forum said it was ok your honor"

I got pulled over in Houston for my exhaust on my grand prix. Just had straight pipes.

It was in a neighborhood that I cut through all the time to get to my house. Neighbors probably complained.

He was a real *******. Looked under my car and asked where my muffler were at. I said I have none, nothing illegal about that. LOL
Gave me a warning, but said if he saw me again he would have my car towed..

BTW this was 2001

What you got were typical responses when you ask a question like that around here and are from California.

fix it tickets are conducted a certain way... anyone who had gotten the same fix it ticket for exhaust in los angeles in the past few years would have my answer, a fact, and not an opinion

Have the laws in CA changed? If it's a fix it ticket, and it was for the exhaust being too loud, simply put the stock mufflers on it and have it signed off by a CHP, or city cop, or whoever wrote the ticket. There is no under hood inspection. All they want is to hear the car and make sure it is not too loud. That's how it worked when I lived there. No need to appear in court or pay a fine.

I guess everyone has to give their 2 cents that has nothing to do with your problem. I can't help you other than contact the police who issued the ticket and see what has to be done.

My unrelated 2 cents is Cali has the most cars and traffic in the country and to think it's responsible to take cats and mufflers off your car is

Of course it's ok for everyone to do what ever they want with there exhaust as long as you can breathe after all is said and done.

As far as I know you need to take your car to a police station and have them evaluate the exhaust and sign off on it. So theoretically it might be worth going to a friendly station, doing whatever they say and seeing if you get lucky and don't have to do anything at all. Other than that it's the standard 95 decibel measurement in this state (actually several other states have more restrictive noise laws, this is not just a Cali thing).

As far as the general issue goes... I dislike the CARB certification board, it's really just a money making scheme, pay us $9000 to certify your product, or it's illegal. Having said that, modern high flow cats are basically the same as straight pipes if you have the right parts, just warm it up before you smog it. I didn't buy a corvette to roll coal, and it makes being friends with the cops and getting a lot of looks the other way kind of hard if you're driving around a biohazard.

I would have asked the cop what I needed to do after he wrote me up.

I lived in the SF Bay Area for 10 years where people have loud exhausts on their cars and motorcycles. It's usually the ones with the obnoxiously loud exhaust who gets written up. Or those who constantly rev up their engines for attention.

Nick (OP) where are you? You asked a question, got a lot of help and questions back, and now no replies from you. Very bad form, buddy. I am sure you have a valid excuse, though.

Let us know exactly what you were ticketed for, and what you have found out, please.

Haven't found anything out yet... I have 3 months to take care of the ticket, which technically means I am immune from receiving another exhaust ticket in the meantime, lol.

Picked up a used stock exhaust from craigslist for 220 dollars, i'll install it in a month or so and see what the court says. I'll also have a shop print out a receipt for "instillation of a stock exhaust + cost" to show the court just in case it's needed as pointed out online.

So you know for a "fact" that you need to appear in court? Maybe I'm off base here, but that just doesn't sound right. A "fixit" ticket is not a moving violation. It usually requires being repaired and signed off by a police officer. That's it!
