130 mph! Woo hoo!

Can't really mess around on the weekends, lots of cops down there watching things and too many a**holes doing their thing, during the week it's pretty empty if you want to play. A beautiful ride though, the Ocean on one side and the Bay on the other, I usually set the cruise to around the speed limit and crank up the radio...

75 mph on I30 here in east Texas. Several good roads around here to air one out with no traffic. Even a couple with no houses for miles and miles and miles. I don't do it often, or in any kind of traffic, but 130-140 is easy. Get there, get back to 70, done.

Does this also apply to my unmodified daily driver Hyundai Elantra? I've hit a 100 on that before keeping up with traffic. Am i to take that to a track as well and see if I can run at least the 16.9 reported times?
if the roads are empty and no side roads are in sight and you've got a clear view of 2+miles does not seem like a bad choice.

I am amazed every time I see a thread like this and all of those that pile on about how irresponsible it is to let the Vette run a bit. Seems to me those that complain like this are either hypocrites or posers. If you don't let it out once in a while, why own one? Surely there are many other cars that are more comfortable if you are just going to go the speed limit. We don't need 436 HP just to get from A to B, but I sure do enjoy it. It is possible to use the power on the road without endangering anyone other than yourself.

There is no place in New York where the traffic density is low enough or the highways are straight enough to push a Vette. However, there are plenty of long flat stretches of smooth highway with no traffic in Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Montana and Wyoming were you can open it up. Don't ask me how I know.

To all others, many apologies, I'll keep my opinions to myself I guess, be safe out there.

As the OP said he was pretty much alone so I don't see it as a big deal, now meatheads like these 2 guys going at it on a freeway with 2 very fast cars, with traffic, NOT SMART

Come on. Jon. There are places where one can run up to speed besides on a track. Not a good idea in traffic, but really what is the point of having a fast street car if you can never go fast? Just use a little judgement. Your example was on a rural road with intersections not a divided highway. Does the follow up article show drugs or booze contributed?

I do 100 on freeway on-ramps and slow to 60-70 before merging at least once a week. There are lots of roads in the desert that are dead straight and you can see for miles to verify zero traffic. 150 is easy and I've been to 180.
Yes, I go to the track too. However, having another car a few feet away at 120+ is a lot bigger concern than out in the desert alone.
