Default z06 exhaust manifolds swap to base engine help!!

Folks,

I have my truck at a shop now to get the Z06 manifolds, downpipe, and x pipe installed in place of the base system. thge shop just called and said the manifold ports do not match up...the z06 is a round port, and the base is a "3/4" port (his words over the phone, and that the exhaust will plow out the gasket. Makes no sense to me, but I need help from those who have done it.

What year is your car?
What year are the Z06 parts from?

2009 Z06 Manifold, they aren't fully round.

Thanks, Jared. I saw that when I dropped them off. Mine are from a 2009. I have been told repeatedly, on this forum, that anything up to 2010 will be fine. So, I bought the correct gaskets for the Z06, which do fit flush to the LS3, and they will use those gaskets. Now, obviously, the gasket has a straight edge at the bottom, where the port is round all the way around.

So, are earlier Z06 ports round? I was under the impression that they were the same from '06 to at least '09. The gaskets for the base LS3 do not appear to have enough material at the bottom to guarantee a seal with the Z06 manifold. That is why we used the Z06 gaskets. Am I missing something?

Use the Z06 gaskets and you are good to go. Don't worry about the different shapes, it appears that everything works.

Don't overthink this just assemble the parts. I did it and just love it, now I get that gurgling sound on the wind down.

Hahaha...I hear you! I was pretty cool about it, but the guy doing the work was "worked up", as he normally works on 'vettes that are getting all new exhaust components. He had not done a Z06 onto an LS3. I know I could have done it myself, but I still would have had to go to him for the reducer/final hook up. Plus, he changed out my plugs and wires at no charge (I supplied the parts). So, I figured I would let him do it all. Beats me havin' to spend about 8 hours on my back, on the garage floor.

Thanks for all the help.

Mike,

How soon after the work did you get a tune, if you got one?

You must have NPP, or the complete Z06 muffs. I am keeping my stock/base muffs, so doubt there will be any "gurgling". No problem, I can make that sound myself...

so what's the point of doing this mod if your going to use the stock mufflers?

Your question makes sense. The stock mufflers have more than enough flow to handle the improvement of the Z06 manifolds and down-pipes. Many folks, on this forum and elsewhere, have done this without changing muffs as an economical way to gain HP. I am not looking for loud, just a bit more performance while retaining the stock appearance.

After reading your reply Jim, mine sounds like I'm a grumpy old man.
