No Front License Plate Ticket
After nine years, it finally happened. I got a ticket for not having a front license plate. Corvette was parked in a metro train lot. I got to the car about two minutes after the ticket was written. Flagged down the metro cops and told them I had the license plate in my trunk, knowing that they cannot rescind the ticket once written. $10 fine if I put the plate on and get it signed off by a police officer.
BS but nothing I can do about it.

That cop had to write you that ticket... Don't you know that by not having your front plate on puts you right up there with the rapists & ax murderers!

Yea. front plates are just wrong. Esp. like in your case where they nail you in a parking lot. Thats what happened the only time I got nailed here in MO. in about 30 years. I had just parked in a parking lot and a State Trooper (known to have an attitude) saw it while passing by and turned around and came back and stuck me. He also had something to say about the emission sticker that was all torn to heck because I had the glass replaced and it got beat up moving it.....

Never really understood what the big deal is about a front plate. I personally don't think it takes anything away from the car. They're so prevalent, that they basically go unnoticed by the general public. Everyone who's commented on my car has never said, "Hey, great looking ride....oh, besides the stupid looking front license plate that takes away from the overall hot looks."
In my opinion, I think the dumb side mirrors sticking off most cars take more away than any front license plate ever would.

States w/o a front plate requirement LEOs note car thieves backing-in cars at various locales known for auto theft activity.
It's become a tell, a cop has to get off his azz & physically check rear plate to clear vehicle. Clever car thieves know how to game a system.
'Spose it's what's left of American ingenuity.

That plate holder is illegal here in Texas. Too much of the plate surround is covering the edges of the the lettering on the plate. If you give a cop a hard time you can get a ticket for it. Our plates have bar codes on them and if the plate surround is covering any of it a fine can be had even if you have a front licence plate installed.

I survived 11 years in NJ without one. Call me lucky. When we decided we were leaving NJ, my asked me where I wanted to go. My answer was, "any state that doesn't require a front plate". We wound up in Delaware.
10 bucks is a small price to pay for driving around without a front plate.
Hopefully you don't have to park there everyday. If so, they probably have your number. Good luck.

A couple of years ago, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled in a drug case that the license plate must be at the furthest most of front of a vehicle. Specifically, in that case a four-wheel motor vehicle was stopped and drugs were found. The issue was whether or not the stop was valid. The arresting officer claimed he stopped the vehicle because it did not have a front license plate. Again, the Court ruled that since the license plate was on the dash as opposed to the front of the car then it was improperly displayed and therefore the stopped by the police officer was legall.
While this is not a recommendation for others, should my vehicle be stopped because I do not display a front license plate, I will probably challenge the stop based upon the issue of unconstitutional as applied since motorcycles are not required to display a front license plate even though in decades past they had to do so.
Even though Texas law has now been established requiring display of a license plate on the furthest most front of a car, it does not appear to me that the Texas statute requires the license plate to be readable from the front of the vehicle. Therefore, if I am forced to install one, I will probably install it at the front of the vehicle underneath their air dam parallel to the road surface. They can read it if they walk up to it. Lots of ways to skin the cat.

When I bought my '69 C3 a prior owner had installed two of the dumb side mirrors on the car. I had it repainted and the painter offered to remove the passenger side mirror for correctness (the Corvettes didn't even have a right side mirror option in '69). I told him that it was a safety issue in my mind and, besides, the car looked better with two mirrors. I ate the point deductions at Corvette shows and at the NCRS judging happily.
