Default 2006 Corvette Exhaust Suggestions/help?

Hey guys I just bought a 2006 corvette. It's currently got American Racing headers on it and then it's just straight piped after that.

Its REALLY loud. I would like to make it a wee bit quieter so it's comfortable to drive without going deaf.

The problem is i I don't want to re tune it. It was tuned with the headers on and I switched back to the oem headers but then it ran rich. Is there anything I can do with the rest of the exhaust to quiet it down with the American racing headers without re tuning it?

I was thinking maybe throwing in a muffler?

Any suggestions or someone with with prior experience would be great.

Thanks!!

Less than 5 hours with no definitive answer, on a weekend where most are out and about on the first day of really good weather? And then a snarky retort to yourself?

Give it some time for someone with experience to chime in (probably after they are home and have a chance to even log in). You could also post this question in C6 Tech. Those guys are the ones to talk to about this question, IMO.

Your car did not come with stock headers. They came with exhaust manifolds.

If you went from headers/straight pipes with a tune back to stock exhaust manifold you need to retune.

I would put back the headers and throw on some mufflers and you might not need to retune. This will quiet things down.

throwing on a muffler would do nothing? There's no way to make the headers any quieter?

Yes, headers with mufflers will quiet things down and most likely will not need a tune.

I just edited my other post.

okay I just thought that the car automatically could read the back pressure and re adjust. So that means no matter what I switch up I'm going to have to get it re tuned? Anyone know roughly how much that would cost? (The tune)

I would go to the C6 Parts for sale section and see if someone has an axle back system they are wanting to sell. Also, if it was tuned with the headers on, I would put them back on. Simply putting mufflers on it would not require a re-tune. And a tune, depending on who and where its done, is usually anywhere from $400-600, depending on how much pulls they make.

I have an 06 and the first thing I did was put ceramic coated headers and catless 3" Xpipe on. Found a used set of z06 NPP mufflers and mild to wild kit. It's almost too quiet with the valves closed but when they are open its heaven to my ears. Definitely my favorite mod. If your car has headers on it there is a good chance it's had a tune to delete the lower set of O2 sensors so the check engine lite doesnt come on and adding a cat back system of any type probly wont change much. I live in SW Florida and the authorities here dont seem to be concerned about loud exhaust or loud sound systems and no pollution standards to meet. Good luck.

Any decent muffler shop can cut the straight pipes and weld in a muffler. Personal opinion would be to use a Z06 or NPP, which could give you volume control.

I'd put some Corsa Sports on it and be done with it. Search is a wonderful tool on this forum. You might try it and find that the subject has been discussed hundreds of time on here.

Leave the headers on. You will not have to retune and you will enjoy the increased power.
As others have said add an after market exhaust New or used. The car will be quiet until you hit the go pedal.
The different systems offer a different sound. Go to that video site and listen to any system you want to hear before you buy.
