Default Ashphalt on my car

I had my convertible C6-with top up- in a parking lot next to a lot that was being ground up and repaved. I came out and there was dust ALL over my car. Took it home and washed it and it looked good but now feels like sandpaper! No amount to basic washing will take it off. I used Goo Gone on windshield and one small corner and it worked pretty good. I've been told by many not to Goo Gone the entire car. Any thoughts or anyone know of a product to get this petroleum like substance (ground up asphalt dust) off my car!!!! Thanks

Take a look at todays answer to clay bars, by NanoSkin. I use the blue sponge but there are a variety of items.
Just follow their instructions, easiest I have found with such little effort. Highly recommend this. Plenty of YouTube videos to watch also.

Back in the mid 80's, I worked for an asphalt company and to clean their trucks that were covered with asphalt and tack oil that we sprayed on a roadway before actually laying the asphalt, we used a kerosene and water mix, then wash it with dawn dish washing detergent. The only thing is it would remove the wax and of course the smell of kerosene that lingered for a while.

Best and easiest way to clean off that black tar / asphalt is to soak a rag in gasoline or diesel fuel ... It will take it right off any won't harm your paint at all.

Make sure you wax it real good after the black crap comes off.

If the asphalt company didn't put out no parking or warning signs that displayed what was going on and to park at your own risk, I would contact them and file a damage claim. They should have insurance that would pay to clean and detail your Corvette.

Edit; If it is on your convertible top also I'm not sure if all of these suggestions would be good for the canvas.

I think kerosene would work.

Having done that type of work I can say you are correct but some folks cringe at the thought of gas, diesel being used as the cleaner. Many times I have done it because the "tack" emulsion used before paving accidently got sprayed on an innocent bystanders car.
If that's what he is talking about then by all means use it, I thought he was complaining of a rough surface from contaminates.
Carry on

Oh ... and if your seriously involved in aviation, jet fuel (Jet A, JP4 or Jet B) will work good too.

Jet fuel is nothing but highly refined kerosene anyway.

Wax. A good wax will take it off. Just takes a little more rubbing. But I think I would try a clay bar first. If it doesn't take it off, then time for a good waxing.

I worked for plenty of asphalt companies, diesel fuel is what they use to remove asphalt from everything...

Default tar removal

Easy
Get a can of 3M 08987 cleaner. This works and is safe to your paint.
Now if it was painted last week maybe not eh! You will see it melt in front of your eyes in seconds. Amazon my be the best price.
You will be happy but try not to get it on your hands, follow instructions.
