I have a base, and would get the GS if I had it to do over again. There are some drawbacks, like more expensive tires, but that shouldn't be much of a factor if you're spending GS money on a "fun" car anyway.

true ! Lol. I shouldn't be going through tires yearly anyway

If it is your DD doubt get a GS. If it is a casual drIver then the GS.

Your comment about the motorcycle is true. I rode to work almost every day for 20 years. Took many long distance trips as well. The Corvette with the top off is almost as fun as a bike, and at the same time much safer. I actually enjoy the open air more than the power and handling.

One thing I did not consider. I have a 2011 GS coupe but test drove a number of c6 from 2006, 2007. I think ground clearance on the non GS is greater. I gotta tell ya my GS front end is really low and scraping in places no other car I'v owned have scraped. But I really like my GS for any number of reasons already stated above.

Great input from all! Appreciate it. I've had 2 vettes, a 98 coupe auto and 02 z06. The z was fun, but the shifting got old driving to work catching every red light. I also didn't like the idea of not removable roof . I'm just debating if I should go full vert or not. Maybe a vert would make me want to get rid of my harley? Lol. Who knows, maybe I'll trade it in on a vett.
I'm pretty sure that I will want 08+ either way. I just like the wide body the best. It definitely stands out. I'm sure if I find a good enough deal on a base it would make me consider buying.
I'm not going to be racing or tracking, just a nice driver that looks great and can be quick when I want it to be.

That being said, There will always be another Vette for sale so unless it's a deal you can't pass up wait for the one with the color/options you want.

I got an 09 C6 base coupe in September. Love the car. I want/wanted a GS, but after reading that the base is faster (arbitrarily faster, but it's faster) I didn't feel so bad. But I still like the look better. I feel the GS looks more aggressive.
30-34k would net you a GS. You just have to be willing to drive out of state.

Base or Grandsport?
Well, it is not uncommon to read/hear that a former base owner traded up to a Grandsport but I don't ever recalling a former Grandsport owner trading down to a C6 base ...

I think that has more to do with generally going newer when trading/upgrading than anything else.

I'm sure there's a huge cost on R&D when they up the HP on an engine.

I have owned a few corvettes and I think the best compromise is a C6 Grand Sport Coupe. You can remove the top when needed and still get ALMOST a true convertible feel. I have owned a few convertible mustangs and prefer the targa top feel anyways. The trunk is much larger in the Coupe vs Vert for road trips. Road noise is quieter in the coupe. Go for a 6M 10+ GS 3LT+ and you will have one sweet ride.

I got my 2010 GS for under 30k. Keep looking! You might have to travel a bit (I drove from Cleveland to Green Bay) to get the right car but it's worth it! Oh and get a GS! Everytime you pass a GS you'll wish you'd gotten one!
