I want back in. ...
A couple years ago I sold my c5z while going through divorce. I'm finally in a position to start looking for another vette. However, I want to go c6. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot to choose from locally and I'd like to drive a couple before I decide. Although I loved the z06 , I didn't enjoy the manual shift every day. Pita driving in town
Looking for opinions as I'm still debating on a few things. I love the look of a convertible grand sport .....but curious if road noise will be an issue. Also, is it really worth the extra $ to have grand sport over base?
I don't want to settle for less and then wish I had just put up the extra money and be done. Lol
Opinions on :
Coupe vs vert
GS vs base
Ls2 vs ls3 (06/07 vs 08+)
I'd like to take a day and just drive a few different one as it would make it so much easier.

I went with a 2008 3LT Auto Z51 Coupe, Love it!!!
I like the GS but I really did not feel it was worth the extra cash for the options that I wanted.
We like to travel in the vette so we opted for the coupe, which I feel has more storage room, I also went with the A6 Z51 because I usually drive in traffic so the A6 is less work and it has the lower rear gears because I am really a 0-60 guy...
Enjoy the search, there are really some nice low mile c6's out there. I bought mine 2.5 years ago and it had 3800 miles from the original owner in showroom condition...it now has 14,051 miles of smiles!!

If you don't want to settle, then go with the newest that you can afford, with the options that you really want. I opted for an AUTO rather than a manual for the same reasons that you stated.
I always had a manual in a sports car, but wanted this C6 to be a road trip vehicle, so AUTO it was. The paddle shifter is there if you want to play a bit. Not like a manual, but better than not shifting at all.
I also opted for a 3LT, which is every option except the leather wrapped dash. You may not think you like all the bells and whistles, until you don't have them.
If you like open air driving, then a vert is for you. If you only like to do it occasionally, then maybe a coupe is a better choice.
Good Luck in whichever you decide.

I have a 2009 C6 Lt3 vert loaded. I am playing with the idea of parting with it after my 80th birthday in a couple of months. Not certain yet. It has 80K miles.
send me a pvt message with your email. we can converse. I live in MD so in range of you.

I have owned a few corvettes and I think the best compromise is a C6 Grand Sport Coupe. You can remove the top when needed and still get ALMOST a true convertible feel. I have owned a few convertible mustangs and prefer the targa top feel anyways. The trunk is much larger in the Coupe vs Vert for road trips. Road noise is quieter in the coupe. Go for a 6M 10+ GS 3LT+ and you will have one sweet ride.

There are tons of threads in here of guys adding wide body kits, or trading their base for a grand sport. Get the grand sport the first time and save yourself alot of hassle.

I had a C5 and would only upgrade to a C6 Grand Sport. It's not just wider tires and fenders. You get massive brakes and rotors and amazing handling over a base car. GS is the only way to go!

My current ride is a 2008 convertible, M6, Z51.
If I know then what I know now I would, without a doubt get a GS, LS3 convertible. You get the best of all worlds, Wide body as the Z06, 427, etc. I won't want to drive anything but a convertible, noise is not an issue and yes it does have considerably less cargo space but the trunk space is adequate, even for week long trips. It can fit two carry size on bags plus a little more.
The performance is easy to upgrade and not too expensive. You can do it in stages as the budget permits and can easily outperform a Z06 and still be very reliable and drivable.
I won't drive an automatic but that is a personal choice and you can have that too.
No contest, easy decision; get a GS, convertible, automatic. End of the dilemma, good luck.

I was originially going for a Grand Sport Convertible. However after driving a few C6's around I ran across a good deal on an 07 coupe 3LT Z51 with a standard transmission. You may want to not rule out a manual until you test drive one. The clutch pedal is very light and I have been stuck in traffic for over an hour where it didn't bother me. I wasn't going racing so the seat of the pants difference between the LS2 and LS3 is not that noticeable. The removeable targa roof was enough to satisfy my open air needs. So in the end a good deal on a clean C6 met all of my requirements even if there are some slightly better models short of a ZO6 or ZR1 which don't have removeable roof panels.

Great input from all! Appreciate it. I've had 2 vettes, a 98 coupe auto and 02 z06. The z was fun, but the shifting got old driving to work catching every red light. I also didn't like the idea of not removable roof . I'm just debating if I should go full vert or not. Maybe a vert would make me want to get rid of my harley? Lol. Who knows, maybe I'll trade it in on a vett.
I'm pretty sure that I will want 08+ either way. I just like the wide body the best. It definitely stands out. I'm sure if I find a good enough deal on a base it would make me consider buying.
I'm not going to be racing or tracking, just a nice driver that looks great and can be quick when I want it to be.

Oh, and as I'm looking. ...the GS'S I like are pretty pricy I don't want to spend $40k +
Realistically, I'm guessing max of $30-34k ..... I'm in no hurry. May have to wait til fall or winter. I just want to enjoy one before I'm too old to get in and out hahaha

I'm not a GS person (personal, no prob for those who like it) but if it were me and for at least dozen technical reasons, if you can afford it, get past the 06, 07 and the 08. Get into at least an 09 or newer.....just me....
