Default Took a shot in the rear today

so, my baby ('13 C6 Black Coupe) was rear-ended by a driver looking at her cell phone. Pulled off the highway, was at a complete stop on the exit ramp, and was smacked from behind. Didn't even see it coming, but it was hard enough to give me mild whiplash (headache the rest of the day). I'm a little stunned, I get out of the car, and the driver walks up and asks "did I hit you?" I could only laugh...I had nothing else. She took full responsibility, and her insurance agent has been great so far. Pics are below. If I had to guess, I'd say she hit me (standing still) at 10-15 mph. Again, hard enough to give me a little whiplash. What is behind the back body panel that I should have the body shop look for?

pissed off, but always glad to walk away...

You can see the buckling here. Makes me wonder about the exhaust.
Given the rain, you have to look closely to see the scratches.
You can see the separation here, as well as the collapsed light.

Sorry to hear...too bad. There is nothing behind that panel just plastic and air. Maybe that's a good thing. Texting/driving...drives me nuts!

Sorry to hear. At least you're alright. Car can be fixed. At least she owned up to it and her insurance co. is stepping up. Cell phones, some people can't live without them for 2 minutes. She's lucky this was all she's done to someone.

Someday the powers that be will be smart enough to regulate those MFing cell phones and driving.
I try to be observant when driving and it is surprising at how many are driving "distracted", really pisses me off

Hi Bobby:

You know where I think this has to go - Just like a driver convicted of DUI gets an ign lockout device placed on their car, we're going to need a texting lockout device on cars whose owners continually show no responsibility and chronically text while they're driving.

There are some expensive parts behind the rear fascia. Had the same thing happen last year. When the bumper fascia is removed it will all be revealed. When the guy hit mine he thought there was little damage but I told him there is no such thing as little damage on a corvette. Good news is it can be fixed like new.

Sorry to hear. This exact accident happened to me as well only a week or two after I bought my C6. It also happened in my last car. I am so sick of people texting while driving.

At least you weren't seriously injured. It will be as good as new before you know it.

Sorry for your troubles ..

I got rear ended just 5 hours after driving off the McMulkin Chevrolet lot with my brand new 2011 GS.

I got as far as New York City on I-95 when I was hit in stop and go traffic on the freeway (Bronx area).

Car was 5 hours old ... yes I was pissed !

Yup ... some young woman hit the car behind me so hard that she pushed his car into the back of me.

The guys car that actually hit me was like an accordion

I guess you could call him a "Middleman" of sorts

the rear rebar is behind that panel that connects the frame rails from one side of the car to the other.when struck from rear it collapses and pulls the frame rails together

Default Been there done that

While driving my SSR I was rear ended twice and both times it was a gal on her frIcking phone doing what ever..SSR parts are super hard to come by to! Last time lower body portion had to be rebuilt by bodyshop. Lucky so far with my Vette!!

irok - that's exactly what I was worried about. Here's hoping I can be spared significant damage like that.

Here's hoping it's a small outcome! I've seen what look like minor hits become more on CF.

Sorry for your accident. Time to treat texting while driving like a DUI offense. I have seen several drivers blowing stop signs lately. I'm thinking distracted driving is causing this too.
Not sure if it will work, but MI has a strong distracted driving law. Skeptical about it as it includes talking to your car companion.

Sorry, but glad you are OK. Try the expressways in Houston where people are texting in the lanes to the left and the right of center lanes while doing probably 80 mph plus! Scares me to no end, and I worry constantly about the Corvette!!

Don't forget to investigate a diminished value claim.
