Default Anyone do their own powdercoating?

Been wanting to powder coat my calipers on my z06 and for the prices that everyone seems to want it almost makes me want to spend a couple hundred and just buy the equipment to do it myself. Get an oven for dirt cheap or free on craigslist, couple pounds of powder ($30), eastwood gun ($100), air compressor ($depends on how nice, but i need one anyways).

Anyone do this? What are your thoughts?

My friend did it in his garage just the same way you discussed. He bought an oven on craigslist for cheap and a cheap gun and powder. It took him a little while to get it right but once he did he was doing very well. He powdercoated my gas cap for my old mustang, a set of Hayabusa exhaust's for a local motorcycle club and it came out great! I wish I could provide more feedback but this is all I have.

I use the oven to form plastics, but just a $5 rattle can to paint calipers. I could refresh the visible portions probably 100 times without any more than removing the wheel and a couple minutes for masking, instead of scrubbing them.

I've a friend who has done it...same...good results. I too want to, but just too many other things in the way.

I have a great powder coater in Phoenix, and since my Cobra build, have given him quite a bit of money, but some things like wheels I wouldn't have been able to do anyway.

Go for it!

Yes, I used to do it with the Eastwood setup. I used an old toaster oven, kitchen oven with bigger parts.

Everything I did came out fine.
