I need your expertise, please help me diagnose this sound
I'm currently on vacation in San Diego and I had this sound just develop. I've got no tools and no contacts out here to work on anything. It sounds as though its in the direct center of the engine more towards the front. Under the intake, not pulleys. Anyone have a guess as to what this might be? Lifter? Oil pressure is good, no issues noticed before this started. Motor has 102k. Anything you'd suggest I could do to help diagnose, or should I just tow to a shop? I'm willing to buy tools and do a little bit of tear down if needed to diagnose.
If anyone knows of a good shop in San Diego or somewhere I could work on it, I'll be here for a month.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Thanks, I feel like it might be lifter noise too.
I'll check out the fan, good point. A/c is disconnected currently, climate control is off.
Thanks again for the help, anyone else got a guess? We will all learn what it is soon enough lol.

Seems very loud for a lifter, but maybe. It does remind me of something hitting a fan, but that's odd in the C6. There is also the Corvette Shop on Ruffner in Kearny Mesa in San Diego, and Excelsior Motorsports on Industrial Way in Escondido just north of San Diego on I-15. You may want to check out their websites. Of the dealers, Bob Stall Chev. in La Mesa west of San Diego sells the most new Corvettes and probably has techs that can do the job---cost will be the issue. Good luck; hope it's an easy fix.

I am going to guess harmonic balanced also. It sounds very familiar to me but a little different than when mine was due. Hope that's not it, but if it is plan on leaving it for the day at a shop.

It has an ATI balancer on it, BUT it very well could have had one of the bolts back out. I'll be checking it here shortly! Thanks for all your help so far, let's hope it's something simple.

It was not the bolts on the balancer and not anything in the fan. It sounds as though it is coming from under the intake although I only ran it a couple seconds.
Any driveway checks I could do to try and narrow it down?

Almost sound like an exhaust leak ... A blown gasket between the exhaust manifold and the head will make that ticking noise.
Do you have aftermarket headers on the car?

So, you have headers.
I have headers on my GS too. The installer did not install the rear O2 sensors as most do not use them when installing headers.
They replace the rear O2 sensors with threaded steel plugs ... One of these plugs came loose and fell out. Made that same loud ticking sound.
