Default 3 horn beeps

What the hell does that mean when you walk away from the car?

I park it, say in my garage or at the drug store and it says good by to me with 3 beeps. While I appreciate the recognition it can be quite embarrassing if a pretty woman, other than my wife, is around!

Take the fob with you and it won't remind you that you left it in the car.

Thanks, but, it is (was) always firmly on my key chain in my side pocket of my britches next to my Traverse key.

Page 3-78 and 3-79 in my 2009 Owners manual:

Passive Door Locking

Press the OPTION button until PASSIVE DOOR
LOCKING appears on the display, then press the
RESET button to scroll through the following modes:
• OFF (default)
• SILENT
• HORN
If you choose OFF, this option will turn off.
If you choose SILENT, the doors will automatically
lock a short time after you remove a keyless access
transmitter from the interior of the vehicle and close
both doors.
If you choose HORN, the doors will automatically lock
and the horn will sound a short time after you remove
a keyless access transmitter from the interior of the
vehicle and close both doors.
If you are parking in a quiet area and do not want the
horn to sound when the doors lock, press the lock button
on the keyless access transmitter immediately after
removing it from the interior and closing the doors.
This will lock the doors and cancel the passive locking
for this ignition cycle.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance
to the next personal option.

Then the car thinks your too slow exiting. It only honks 3 times as a reminder the fob is inside.

If you open the door, exit then get back in without shuting the door it will honk 3 times when you shut the door.

Passive lock only honks once.

When I walk away from mine, it only beeps once. If I am in the immediate vicinity, it often beeps three times.

If you are standing by the door, then it thinks your car keys are still in the car and is reminding you to not leave them in the car.

You need to run away faster.

I have the passive lock on silent. Never hear 3 honks when I get something out of the hatch. I open hatch before I exit the car.

You're staying too close to the car with the fob after you shut the door. Car "thinks" the fob is still in the car.

Only 1 beep for normal automatic locking if you've got it set to beep.

3 beeps is only for fob left in the car alarm.

it is a fob reminder, it means you left the fob in the car, get your *** back to your car NOW ! or you will be locked out of your car, with your keys on your seat..

in reality it's generally just a shitty designed piece of tech that was way ahead of its generation

If the keys are in your right pocket when you get out of the car and close the door "facing forward" it thinks your keys are in the car still since its still close to the car.

However, if your keys are in your left pocket, sometimes it doesn't detect the fob being in the car.. so basically your screwed either way...

There is a setting to shut off the Fob reminder, go into settings and shut it off

Never heard 3 beeps, even when I'm getting something from the hatch. I'd put it on silent but I just don't trust it.

Mine has been on silent for 10 years....locks everytime. It still flashes the lights to confirm locking.

Mine does it every once in a while. Keys in pocket and out of car and 10 ft away. It actually did it this afternoon.

I like mine to beep when I am walking away. It is like it is saying, "Bye, I'll miss you!"
