No Jiffy Lube for me. Most dealers put out coupons for oil changes on a fairly regular basis. I'd rather pay the extra at the dealer than take a change with an under trained 16 year old.

Or .... unfortunately they said there was no difference between wet or dry sump. That's when I said thanks and left. So there was no unknowingly. Other sad thing is I know these guys and bring them a beer on occasion, so just be diligent my friends!

I will continue to change my own oil because I don't trust anyone else to do it... Jiffy Lube sucks......WW

I do my own changes and get great satisfaction from doing it. Using Race Ramps to raise up so I can slide underneath. Knees don't like getting down that low anymore so am beginning to think I need a lift to make it easier the once a year I do the changes.

I took my Toyota to Jiffy Lube some years ago and they did OK ... no complaints or compliments.

I take my Vette to Express Lube (they may just be in the Southeast), and they do a really good job. They have a pit instead of a lift so there's no need for pucks, and use Mobil 1 in bottles so you know exactly what you get. You get to stay with the car, and they are extremely careful. No complaints at all. They use a Valvoline filter, but I suppose you could take one of your own if you wanted to. I've never had a problem with Valvoline though.

I pulled the drain plug. the hot oil pours out hits the pan and overflows. a giant puddle of oil starts to spread gets all over me, I scramble to find a shovel and get some dirt to try and contain it. my two 4 month old pups are curious I have to keep them out of it!!!. just then my wife gets home as I yell at the dogs. she runs to the local feed store and buys 200 lbs of oil sorb. What a mess. now I have a trashcan full of hazardous waste to dispose of. that's my story.

I mostly do my own servicing but have used the dealer a few times if it was too inconvenient to do it myself. I vividly remember my first experience with a brand new Jiffy Lube that opened in the late 1980's that had a grand opening promotion and open house.

I watched as the first customer got his oil changed by a novice who never learned the term "Lefty Loosy, righty tighty" and proceeded to lean into the flexbar he was using and tightened the drain plug in the aluminum oil pan pulling the threads right out of it.

I have the same style drain pan. Dropped my pan bolt when I took it out and it fell perfectly in the hole on top of the pan. I was shocked at how fast all of my oil was all over the garage. Don't let that discourage you. Stupid stuff happens. If you are physically able, keep doing them at home. It is satisfying and really is the only way to know it has been done right. Otherwise, I still think a local repair shop is better than a quick oil change place. At least the guys at the repair shop are actually mechanics.

...Man...spilling ten quarts of fresh oil would be bad enough...but can you imagine spilling ten quarts of hot used oil.....better dig into those 10 extra cases of bounty towels......

Fumoto drain plug is your best friend when changing oil. Never have to take it off the oil pan, just slide it over to drain (spring loaded) and slide back when fully drained. Best thing I put on my vehicles. check it out on Amazon.

The ops story is pretty funny - I am imagining the puppies. I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time but I have done similar oil changes. Thanks for sharing.

I change my own oil and routine maintenance on my motorcycles.

I'll take my 'vette and all my other cars to the local oil change pit. It's not worth the trouble. I know the guys there and no one screws around a 'vette. I have my favorite shop but see nothing wrong with Jiffy Lube.

My corvette as well had a corvette specialist. He tells me he is too busy though to do things I am capable of doing on my own.

If you'd rather not do it yourself, go to a good shop, pay a bit more, and have the peace of mind that things were done correctly.

I totally agree, stay away from the quick change shops. Find a good shop that takes pride, even if it cost more

I bring oil and filter to a local quick-change shop, but the owner does all of the work himself. He told me flat out that he doesn't want to have to buy me a new motor, and doesn't trust anyone else to work on my car. $20 and 15 minutes later I'm on my way with both of us happy.

You drive a Vette...take it to a dealer and pay the $90 and then you know it's done right and the drain plug to torqued to spec and it's on record.
Just my 2 cents worth
