Default GM Charging an arm and a leg for brake pad change

they need to first do a brake inspection and they said all 4 would be $700 along with 4 hours of labour which would be $400 canadian so together more than $1000. its the Gm front pads and adelco rears which is the only option they have. are these normal prices?

That sounds extremely high. I would check the price at a corvette mechanic shop nearby

For a dealer, hell yeah! They will stab you every chance they get. You can get the pads on Amazon for under $150 total and, DIY, it takes about an hour to install all of them which includes the time it takes the jack up the car and take the wheel off.

0 chance of a first timer doing all 4 corners in an hour. Maybe 1 hour per corner for a first timer.

Can you do it yourself? I'm sure there are multiple videos on youtube showing exactly how to do it.

What brakes do you have? Base, Z51, GS/Z06, ZR1?

I bought oem AC Delco Z51 front and rear rotors with Z51 pads for about $535.00 on Amazon and installed them myself. Add $15 for brake fluid and cleaner and your at $550.00.

Normally, shops charge you retail on parts and probably can do it in 3 hrs., including pads, rotors and flushing the system. It would take me 4 hours because I do not have air tools or a lift.

If it is just brake pads, then that is an expensive brake job!

Even with just the pads, you need to install new clips, remove and clean the pins, then apply brake grease to the pins, edges of the pads where they slide on the clips and I even grease the back of the pads for preventing squeal. Install pads and flush the system.

Changing the pads/rotors on a Vette is no more difficult than any car I've done it on, in my opinion.

research your pad selection before you choose "the best performance pads you can get". Not always best for a drive to the store.

Amazon or Rockauto are good sources to compare how much a shop is charging you for parts vs. how much it costs you to buy retail.

Amazon open box is one place to start. Quick look and I found 2 sets AC delco ceramic pads and 4 AC delco drilled rotors for $152.

See if a shop will let you provide parts if you are on a budget.
