Default Auto Sports Car VS Manual Sports Car

Today we look at 2 different types of transmissions to drive on the street, please keep in mind some of us do not live in high traffic areas.

Also theoretically you own identical cars except one is automatic and one is manual.

Auto Sports Car
-Faster shift speeds
-Easy to drive
-Both hands always on steering wheel
-Easy to drive in traffic
-Less effort

Manual Sports Car
-HeelToe downshift rev-matching
-Better launch
-Possible better MPG
-Cheaper price
-Car engagement(sense of feeling in control

Side note: With a manual transmission I love that feeling of clutching in and feeling the stagnation of acceleration then shifting and feeling that sensation of being thrown back into your seat again after accelerating this sensation is less exaggerated in an automatic because the shifts are so smooth.

With all of this being said, which style do you prefer and why?

I personally prefer a manual transmission, it has to do with feeling in control of the car and it engages me and forces me to pay more attention to whats going on. I like being in control of when to shift.

But by FAR

Nothing beats that feeling of switching gears when you clutch in and feeling the stagnation of the car and then shifting and being thrown back into your seat

My 'vette, Accord, Trooper and three motorcycles are all manual shifts.

My Duramax Diesel is an Allison auto.

Okay, the Lone Ranger of auto's here....mine has rev-matching, so take that off the list.
Mine is as capable of a good launch as a similar manual car,so...." "

No doubt, manuals are more fun. I have owned many. But, now I like to relax...you win, I relax.

I prefer a manual as well, both for track/autocross and street. I just feel more in control of what is going on. However, old age and a bum knee caught up with me, so A6.

I just hate the trend of the manual going away. The new dual clutches are superior as far as shift speed, but other than that, there's nothing that appeals to me. Bonus annoyance - extra gears in transmissions. The 7MT in the Corvette is retarded as is the 10 speed in the new Ford pickups. Six gears is optimal for just about every car on the road.

I agree, a real sports car has a manual, as well as all "muscle" cars should too. I consider the Corvette a real sports car and a muscle car-best of both worlds!

I think I recall OP from off topic section. His "jumbo shrimp" forum name is amusing. I want the MZ6 in my late build 2008 c6 with full tune and bolts. My 2016 Acadia is an A6 but has paddle shift capacity that I rarely use. I don't tow either but I could. If I might add a thought I have come to find I pay much more attention all around driving the Vette. In the Acadia I sit back and set the CC on the interstate and in-town of course not but somehow the brake pedal comes to be my more prominent pedal.

Manual transmission will always be more fun to drive and allows you to feel the car. For a sports car I choose manual each time, for an SUV I would go automatic.

I love my vette, but sometimes a fulltank doesn't even last an entire day

Well yes your auto can do rev matching but can it downshift disengage the clutch apply brake and throttle at the same time then release the clutch when you want the power back at the wheels that is what i was referring too.

I hear ya there with the traffic..I love rolling down to nashville on the weekends but god damn that traffic!

Hahaha manuals are fun yes, but no one won wins, I just like to hear all the different views and reasoning's on the topic
