GS Rear Clunk Noise
In searching I couldn't find a thread that described exactly what issue I was having. Every time I drive and I'm slowing down (stop light, stop sign, etc) once I get to 5mph I hear this "clunk" in the rear. Almost always around 5mph when slowing down. This will happen before I get in the gas. 2011 GS A6. Anyone else had any experiences like this? Appreciate any advice!

Not much to go on there.
If the car is new to you, and you don't know history, I think the easiest thing to check is the axle nuts. They were mostly a problem on early model year cars, not so much with 2011 but still......
Or provide more detailed info on symptoms. Like can you reproduce the sound with a little "on - off" the gas in first or second gear, as in drive line slack / torque tube / driveshaft looseness.

Tried to isolate the problem a little more today with not much luck. Seems like only low speed (highest I could hear it was 29mph) but mostly it's 20 or less. Usually when I'm getting back into the gas. If I was coasting down to a stoplight I shifted into neutral once and never heard it. Once stopped as soon as I put it in D I heard it. I thought something in the tranny. But did not hear this specifically as it downshifts each time. More so it seemed low speed as I would get back into the gas. Turning/going straight had no impact on when I heard this clunk.
So I could not get a "definitive" time for it to happen which bothered me but I was trying! Perhaps someone else may have had something similar?

I agree with the axle nuts ... even if they seem tight, try loosening them and reseating them before torquing correctly. Its cheap and easy; if it solves your problem, great, if not you are not out anything but a little time.

Finally got to changing the axle nuts yesterday. After sitting for 24 hours took it for a drive today and NO CLUNK! I would have never known to try this repair without the forum - so thanks to everyone who suggested the axle nuts.
