Default Car wash

I took my car to a guy to have it detailed. It is black so as you know it shows everything!

He cleaned it up pretty good but He showed me area's that He called a HALO effect that could be fixed by buffing it out. He told me that it was caused by running the car through a car wash.

My car is a 08 that was built in May 07 and was ordered as a pilot car for GM in Warren Michigan. After they put 12,000 miles on it, they sent it to auction. I told the detailer that GM probably did send it through a car wash and it went through a Michigan winter!

All in all though it does look good but it does show what a car wash does to a paint job!

I looked around and found a brushless wash for my future use!

That's one of the Nonno's of owning a Corvette is running it through a carwash because it's got wide tires and sits low at all cost wash it by hand

I kind of doubt that story. Most automatic car washes can't handle the wide tires, certainly none around me. At least it's an easy car to hand wash, not like my truck where I have to get a step ladder even to clean the windshield.

I had my black vert detailed with some paint correction to get rid of swirls. I know use waterless wash with a microfiber towel. This as I have stated before has more lubricity than water. I never would take this car to a car wash. It take 20 minutes and I'm done.

If you're talking about the black vert in your profile, you should never, EVER, run it through a car wash unless you want to take the chance of having your rear window blown out of the top. It's a very expensive lesson to learn as there is no chance of repair when that happens. Especially with black, you should be using waterless wash and microfiber towels.

Did this happen to you? If so, can you give the details of exactly which kind of car wash this was? Did the owner of the wash pay up?

Thank you!!! I have been trying to remember this guys name for weeks now. I've seen a couple of his videos years ago and was trying to remember what he went by. He definately offers ideas for those that don't spend $40/oz for golden magic touch scented auto detail wash.

No, not me personally, and no, the owner didn't pay for it. Pretty much every car wash has a sign posted stating they are not responsible for any damage.

I had the paint literally blown off of the gas door on my DD when I had my car hand washed at a local car wash. They used a pressure washer to get the car wet and it blew the paint off. When I complained that a pressure washer is not a hand wash, they referred me to their sign.

I have always washed by hand but after neck surgery, my shoulders will not handle it. I did find a brushless car wash that does not require you to pull onto tracks. You just drive it in and then the wash moves around you. I followed another Vette through the wash the other day and His car looked great.

But as I said, GM probably did not care or the next few owners?

FWIW, I have taken mine through a touchless wash hundreds of times and brush washes a few times (no track because of wheels), and never once have I felt the rear window was going to blow in, which is why I asked. So far, "friend of a friend" rumors, is as far as I can tell this issue is, as I don't remember anyone posting that it actually happened to them.

I should start a poll to see if it has actually happened to someone who posts here.

Halo effect is from Jose using the rotary to quickly buff a car. Its NOT from the carwash. The carwash induces swirls, not halo's or holograms.

If he's talking about a "hologram" effect, it wasn't a car wash. Improper detailing (maybe trying to remove small scratch) did it.
