Gas, which would you use
If 91 octane non-ethanol and 93 octane with ethanol were available
at a similar price, which would you use?

93 with is what we use here in DFW in the summer. No problem in 10 years.

Only 93 octane in every single car I have owned. I tried to use 91 Non Ethanol on a waverunner I had and it started running very rough. Went online and many people said its because the fuel is probably old and sits in the tank for so long since many people just buy regular 87 or 93 and skip the non ethanol 91. Went back to 93 and no problems.

If car is stock use 91 will get better mileage. If car is modified and needs the octane well then use highest available.

Since the ethanol is known to cause damage to rubber and plastic I wonder if the ethanol content of some gasoline is the contributing factor to some of the gas leaks and gasoline fumes experiences by some C6 owners resulting from cracked plastic fuel fittings.

We have 4 choices.
87 Octane Regular with 10% ethanol
89 Octane 10% ethanol
91 Octane - No Ethanol
94 Octane - No ethanol
I use 91 octane which is about $0.30 more per US gallon. I have a gas card that saves me that much per gallon, so it's like getting premium at the regular Octane price.

I would use the 93 with ethanol, these cars like the octane

whichever is cheaper. Since 91 is all that's required for max performance. I have no heartburn with ethanol and there's zero risk if you burn it out of the tank on a highway trip. But I've never had a problem with it but I have gotten bad gas before.

There are a couple of considerations. If both are top tier formulas, then I'm not sure it's going to make much difference from a performance perspective. My understanding is that, at least in the US, it's getting really hard to find straight gasoline that has a top tier detergent formula. I would run 93 octane with ethanol rated as top tier before I would run 91 without the top tier formulation.
As I understand it the knock sensor will cause the computer to pull timing in case of knock, but you do have to have some knock for the engine to sense before timing gets pulled. I run as high an octane rating as I can to avoid as much knock as possible.

Not sure if this has been posted here before, but in the event it hasn't been here is a listing of all the Top Tier rated gasoline available in North America.

Chevron has the Techron in their gasoline. It is very good stuff especially for your valves and injectors. Even the Chevron Diesel has the Techron in the diesel fuel. I'm not sure if Chevron has allowed/licensed other brands to have the Techron in their respective gasolines, and since they now owned Texaco, I'm curious if the Texaco brand gasoline has the Techron. I hope it does because I use Texaco in states where Chevron is not available.
I'm curious if the other brand gasolines have anything as equivalent to the Techron?
