"69 C3 vert body on top of a C6 Z06
Hi Guys
Thought you might like to see something a little different.
Down here in Australia, we are building some pretty off the wall Corvette customs, by installing heavily modified '69 C3 vert bodies on top of standard C6 Z06 platforms.
Started out be sourcing some suitable donor Z06's from insurance sites in the States.
I started out just building one for myself, but 4 of my friends wanted to join in, so now we are doing five of them.
We then sourced a rubbish old '69 body, and cut it from front to rear straight down the middle. Currently halfway through doing the body mock up. The big challenge is to make this C3 body work with the C6 platform, and still look right and tough.
We are a bunch of retired blokes down here with nothing better to do than build something like this. We are all over sixty, heck 2 of us are over 70, and yes we have been called mad, and we probably are, but we are having a heap of fun, and building our dreams.
Have enclosed pic of my donor car, and an early mock up shot.
2008 C6 Z06 with 9k miles. Light rollover, minor LR suspension damage. Not a cheap car to fix, but perfect for our needs, and price was attractive.

Sorry Guys, this is a long time coming, but project is approaching completion.
I promised our local Corvette Club here in South Australia it would be finished for our annual Show n Shine Sunday February 13.
it still needs final finishing and refining, but was very well received, so please check out the pics.

We plan on tackling that with a rear functioning brake duct, and perhaps lengthening the doors.
Built a C2/C5 car a few years ago called Prodigy. Check it out on
www.prodigy-z06.com Had a similar issue with this car also, but I think it turned out fine.
Currently refining front clip, so rear mock up is rough

Thanks mate
It looks reasonably in proportion.
I seen your other build at a show, impressive .
I'm working on a c6 drivetrain under a c3 but a different approach to what you have here.

The conversion will morph in with the overall build, and we are well advanced with this process? Steering sorted, pedalbox nearly finished, hand built RHD firewall almost finished as is the HVAC system.
We have yet to build the dash, or addressed the wiring yet, but we see no huge issues here.

Yes Bob, am a real fan of the C5 and on chassis. 4 times stronger and lighter than anything before. Supercar stuff really.
It was a no brainer for me to use these in our builds, thou there will always be compromises with using earlier body designs. Challenge is, to make them look light

There are several various kits around that are direct panel replacements to reflect other models, and most are cleverly done.
Personally I can't get past using the later windscreen rake:- ruins it for me.
Still, our approach is clearly not commercially viable, so these kits serve a purpose in a niche market.

I agree and am impressed to see somebody changing it to be more appropriate. All of the "rebodied" cars I have seen over here (US) use the C5/C6 windscreen and it just completely ruins the effect. Can't wait to see the finished product!

I'll post some pics of the front build as it progresses, it is currently close to being ready to take the molds from.
The standard C3 windscreen frame has been widened just over 7" to fit onto the C6 "A" pillars. We used the top of the C3 "A" pillar that houses the top door hinge, and used that as a reference point for swinging the doors.
Of course the Z06 frame is aluminium, and the birdcage is steel, so we are glueing and bolting the windscreen frame to the Z06's "A" pillars.
Challenge to get new custom windshields here. All our windscreen manufacturers have shut up shop here, and everything is now made in China ( does this sound familiar ). We needed to make up a dummy new screen in fibreglass and send it over to China to be manufactured. We had to buy a minimum of 10 screens to warrant their tooling, but amortised over 5 cars, the cost wasn't horrid:- about $600aus per screen.
