I had one of these roll up next to me at a light yesterday. His had the shaker hood with 392 badge (not the one pictured). We got caught at 3 different red lights side by side where we were the first cars. I wasn't looking to race but there was some back and forth with light throttle at each take off from the green light. We both took the ramp to get on the interstate with him in front. When I got a chance, I stomped on it and slingshotted by him. He still had temporary plates, so I think he was trying to resist going for it, but he did step on it for a couple of seconds before he realized I had gotten a jump on him and it was too late. I'm not condoning road racing, but my question is if we did race, should I of been worried of losing? Just so you know, he had the 392 Dodge Challenger and my car is a stock GS M6.

The 392s all run around 12.5 for the fastest Autos, the manuals are around 12.7. If you have a LS3 they run 12.4 stock. So it would be a close drivers race. You shouldnt be scared.

Mopars have always had as much or more motor than anyone. Problem is they also carry more weight which is always the great equalizer. I know because I had a 69 Charger in high school. They were STRONG!

I've seen stock 392 Challengers and chargers run in the 12.1* pretty regular, but also many in the 12.5's so they aren't slow. I think the vette would eventually pull away, the 8-spd does make a difference.

In stock form, I think that you would have the advantage.

If you weren't looking to race, then why did you find it necessary to "slingshot" by him? It sounds like you were trying to instigate the race. It also sounds like he would have rather been left alone. JMHO

No need to worry. The weight difference is big enough that you'd take him.
I've done it a few times in Mexico.

Oh boy, I think I was the guy just minding my own business. The guy was behind me and he had every opportunity to stay there but kept coming up along side me and playing a little game of back and forth. I also got behind him to take the interstate and when I put my blinker on he also turned to the on ramp. After I slingshot past him I saw him staying a comfortable distance behind me but he was still moving at a good pace. I took the next exit and he followed and ended up behind me on the exit ramp and then driving along side me again on the next road before I turned off and headed home. I definitely wasn't bothering him, not that I was bothered either. At first I wasn't sure what he was looking for, but my guess is he just picked up the car and was having a little fun while still waiting to break it in. His car still had the temp on it.

Good to know. I have heard a lot of talk about how fast they are but it's nice to hear that the LS3, which came out in 08, can do more than just hold it's own against some of the newer competition. The challengers are not bad looking, definitely give you that muscle car look and sound, and the interiors can be real nice too. I check them out sometimes when I bring my Ram 1500 in for service. I was checking out the hellcat one day when the sales guy came up to me and said "can you afford one of these or are you just looking?"

I'd have told him, "Why yes I can, and was planning on paying cash for this one right here, but now that you've said this I'm going to another dealership just so you don't get the commission."

I would have said, "I can pay cash for one of these, but, why would I want one, when I own a Vette?"

I had one pull up on me this weekend as well. Didn't realize he was for sure going to race until the light hit green. I was ready but he got a slight jump on me. I started pulling ahead of him and had to let off due to traffic. Wish we had more room as I was interested to see what would happen. I thought he'd beat me for sure. All in Mexico of course.

I didn't really sweat it that day. I would usually rip into someone for much less, but I just thought this is the dumbest thing he could of possibly said. I'm a busy man, I don't always have time to fix everybody else's stupid. And in this case, it would of been an enormous project.

I did look up some MotorWeek youtube videos on their testing of a 2010 GS and the 2015 SRT Challenger. In their testing they had 1/4 mile times for the C6 GS at 12.6@115 and the SRT at 12.8@106. Seems a little slow for the SRT but it did look to have trouble hooking up. None the less, it makes me feel better that knowing with everything else being equal, the odds should have been in my favor. Still, I didn't realize the cars were so close in straight line performance.
