I have found that a little old fashion charcoal lighter fluid takes those black carbon lumps right off and unless you're so inclined, no polishing is necessary.

Yah I've heard it works great! After my polish of the tips, the surface becomes super smooth, nothing sticks to it, so when I wash my wheels, I simply wash the tips comes out a perfect shine.
