Default New 2006 C6 from TC

Hello all!!

My name is Cindy and I just got my first Corvette for my Birthday!! it's a 06 auto w/ 70k. Loving it so far but I have some minor issues with it I need some advice on please!

Cracked roof top 😩

Terribly cataracts on headlights

Dirty bay 😭

It appears to be completely stock. What else should I look out for??

Thanks for viewing
Cindy

Hi Cindy. That was quite a nice BD present for sure.
Congrats
You will need to replace the transparent roof because it will likely leak if caught in a rain storm. You can find used ones on the C6 Parts for Sale wanted section in this forum. Local pick up is suggested as they often get damaged in transit if not packaged correctly. You can also get a used solid color top cheaper. If the hardware is not included one could be had for approx. $300.00 You can use the hardware from your top to put on the newer top.

The headlight lenses can be changed out as a DIY for under $400.00

The engine bay can be cleaned up using a spray 9 type cleaner on a rag. Once cleaned, you can use a detail spray or Armour All to get it gleaming.

I've got 85K miles on my 06 and the only real issue I had was a leaking seal on the water pump at 30K miles.
The Engine and transmission are solid on an LS2 as long as the engine oil is changed regularly.

Here is a great section to find out about the C6. This includes lot's of tips and tricks.

Good luck

Congratulations on your C6. Follow the advice on the above post. I would change the fluids and check the underneath of the car for leaks. Have the Harmonic Balancer checked as well for wobble. Good luck

Congratulations Cindy! You are going to love the Vette. Just be careful as the car can be a handful. Mine still scares me sometimes and I have had it for several years. You will find a wealth of information here on the forum and lots of great folks who love to help others with advice and information. Please keep us posted with your progress.

For headlight lenses, there are a couple of "Forum Vendors" who are approved to advertise. RLSebring has been around the forum for a long time. Here is a link to his lens sale;

And Umnitza

Have fun!

Welcome to the forums! It is indeed stock so that is a good starting point. First step is to get it all cleaned up! Need to get the engine bay spotless

Welcome and congrats on your birthday present! By the looks of the engine bay, I would say the previous owner frequently traveled down a dirt road. I would definitely have all the fluids changed soon. I would also look at the date on the battery, and consider replacing it. Corvettes can do funny things when the battery starts to go bad. Check the tires closely for wear and cracking. Also maybe have someone check the brake pads for wear. Be careful and enjoy your new ride

Congrats and enjoy your vette. For the headlight try 3M 39084 Headlight Restoration Kit. It's about $16.00 at any auto parts store. I had use it on my other car and it works great.

Happy Birthday & that's one heck of a BD present; congratulations and enjoy. Follow the advice above and I would definitely do a complete fluid change, at a minimum oil change and radiator flush.

Congrats and welcome. Nice car! Looks just like mine. My headlights are crappy too stained on the inside. Lots of great info and knowledge here.

Love the color Cindy, but you need new top for sure, has everybody said before, has for your headlights, on the forum you see replacement covers, but will need someone to do the job for you. If you decide to replace the headlight assy, very expensive.
You want to find car wash garage, you usually have detailers to polish cars, and buff out headlights, around the corner from me. they did the wife's Honda, it looked like new for $100.00.

first cleaning
Wow thank you so much everyone!
So much great information here now i know where to start. When i saw 1400$ for a new top i freaked out
Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable corvette shop local to dfw i could have the fluids changed and looked over? After driving a bit i am noticing a squeek or rattle on the front passenger wheel area.
Having my lenses swapped is a must do, looks like water got inside it.

So far i am thrilled with it even with the flaws it has. i will be addressing them all and getting it running perfect so i can do some modifications

Thanks much everyone!

Everyone on here luvs women who join the Forum. Congrats and welcome.

I'd say the advice re top replacement and headlight replacement are correct, but the headlight is not an easy task. So, either get someone who knows C6 (sixth generation Vette) or start looking at youtube vids on how to do it. As mentioned, RL has been around the longest, but new vendor is on here, too.

I'd also suggest you google your area's Corvette clubs---lotta knowledge in the membership PLUS they will know who are the good repair shops and who aren't. One that I had a friend who was a member of is Cowtown Vettes of Ft. Worth.

Finally, as to cleaning the engine bay, this may not (stress on words "may not") be a simple spray water and wipe off. Too many electrical and computer sensor stuff. Again, find out from someone who knows what is the proper way to clean it off. Me, I use a rag or many, spray bottle of water. No Simple Green, no degreasers, etc. Some will say you can; I believe less is more.

Good luck and have a blast with the car. Just be careful out there until you know the full capability of the car (unless you're already an accomplished racer)

PS one last thing: what is the condition and tread depth of your tires, all four? The little round things are probably the single most important items on your car (or any car)?
