Default Rev limit in park?

Yesterday while parked, I tried to rev to 6k but the car would not go past 4K. Is there some kind of rev limit while in park?
The car will go to 6500 rpm while in gear.
Thanks,
G

It's called a stupidity limiter.

Launch control on the manual transmission models of some Corvettes limits it at 4000 rpm with foot to floor, then side step the clutch.

Old school, still relevant as far as I know: You should NEVER rev an engine at or near redline that does not have a load on it. In other words, NEVER in neutral/park/clutch in.

If racing and power-shifting, then do whatever it takes to win; it's not really the same thing as sitting still and flooring it.

Gotta ask. What was the purpose of doing this?

Why would you want to damage your engine doing that? Good thing GM engineers made it almost fool proof.

Thanks for the question and comments (even the smart *** ones)
I'm taking the car in to be tuned and wanted to make sure it would go to red line for the tune. I didn't know it had to be under load to do that.
I should have known it would since it will when in gear moving down the road, but I thought it would be out of gear for the tune.
And I've have always expressed to my students " there are no stupid questions" I guess that doesn't apply here.

I imagine it will be under load on a dyno for the tune. You might watch a couple of videos on Youtube of dyno tunes being performed just so you know what to expect.

Is Dyno tune the same as computer tuned?
I'm getting the trans and computer re mapped.
This is what I'm having done
Increase power enrichment rate mode
Examine and change timing tables for additional horsepower & torque gain
Optimize your vehicles Air and Fuel Ratio monitored by the NGK/ AFX wideband unit
Reduction of intake air temperature table (heat soak)
Desired rev limiter adjustments
Park, neutral, and in- gear idle adjustments with and without A/C active
Adjust power enrichment delay to immediate (*Transmission Performance*)
Engine torque management system reduced (*Transmission Performance*)
Transmission torque management system reduced (*Transmission Performance*)
Transmission shift points enhanced (*Transmission Performance*)
Transmission shift times reduced (*Transmission Performance*)
Transmission shift pressure firmness enhanced (*Transmission Performance*)
Skip shift deleted (CAGs 1st to 4th shift) (*Transmission Performance*)
Fuel injector rescaling for aftermarket injectors
Cooling fan activation temperature and percentage of cooling recalculated
Perform speedometer recalibration for rear gear ratio and tire size change
Turn off check engine light and remove trouble codes
Neutralize rear oxygen sensors if needed

Not necessarily. They may just put a canned tune in it without putting on the dyno. Depends on what equipment the shop has and what you are paying for.

To answer your question, on automatic vehicles the rev limiter is set to 4k in park and neutral from the factory.

Who's doing the tune?
Have you done a thorough evaluation of them?

A good tune is wonderful but a shoddy tune can be disastrous. Best to do your homework Teach.
