Default looking for minor bolt on mods to grandsport

I would like to see what everyone has done to there cars for bolt on mods and small power gains. I don't want to tear into the engine. I'm contemplating headers, and a K&N air filter. I can do minor work but not into anything major. Just like to get the best fuel mileage I can and a little more performance. The car will never be raced or see the track. The problem I have had with headers in the past is leaks after a while. Just some simple do it yourself bolt ons.

Headers and a tune will be your best bet for power and gas mileage.

What Jared said.

You could also add a "CAI" and ported throttle body, but you wont have much of an increase except in throttle response. You can also look into getting a FAST 102 intake.

Forget the K&N, no performance gain and they do not filter that well. A throttle controller like the Vitesse will make it FEEL like it has more power. Very easy do it yourself install.

What headers do you all run? There has to be a favorite proven header by now for c6s.

There were a couple of full Z06 exhausts, manifolds to mufflers, in the for sale section recently. I believe your car is a manual so these should bolt right on and give you almost everything long tube headers will give you.

Get a tune after install, and ask them to eliminate torque management. I'm not sure how much effect it has on a manual as I have never looked at a manual's program in HPTuners, but it makes a huge difference in an auto.

Add a cold air intake and you have a real good start.

These

Unfortunately headers are a pretty major investment for HP gain per dollar spent, but in saying that they are the first building block needed for other mods to perform as they should

I with NSF. Great building block and, from experience, you WILL be doing more. So, get those headers on and done....then build.

I looked at Kooks website. What size would be appropriate. Full length I would assume is ideal but the tube size?

Staying mostly stock I assume ? maybe a cam later? Then they say 1 3/4" is the bang for the buck, although you could go 1 7/8" no problem. Clearances get tighter naturally. There are other good one like LG, ARH, etc. Then you have to decide catted or not, I went catted, fit was excellent and with Kooks you get everything needed all inclusive plus Stage 8 locking fasteners.
Also I suggest Maryland Speed for price, call and personally talk with Branden.
Good Luck

Yes, all stock. Later possible a cai and larger throttle body. That would be the extent. What do you mean by cats? Adding a higher flow cat exaust?

Cats versus an uncatted mid-pipe.

Catalytic converter, yes that's what I meant. Some do it without and some do it with, your choice, but do you have smog inspections where you live, God forbid its California then forget all of it
CAI are somewhat of a waste unless you do the Vararam where it actually injects out side air, other wise stay with what you got, it flows great according to the gurus here
Throttle body I don't know about.
I am pretty satisfied with what headers, new plugs, MSD wires, modified intake shroud and dyno tune did, car is alive now, and the sound is completely different, louder
You will get lots of info on here, some good some not so much, take it with a grain of salt
NSF pS I see your from the Show me State so your smog I don't know about

They check for OBD codes. But, he has a towing service so I suspect push come to shove, he knows some people. But it's not difficult to tune the rear O2's out.

I'm not worried about smog. They don't test in my city. Plus my shop is an inspection site. I don't want the check engine light on though constantly either. I'm sure they have 4 02 sensors.

Actuall 1 3/4" headers will give ya more torque than the 1 7/8". Most guys go with bigger diameter if their going to add cam etc...
U could add axle back performance mufflers and CAI... also port the intake..,

A few horsepower can be picked up with a polished throttle body, but not much, the intake plenum is already in pretty good shape from the factory, though there may be a couple of more horsepower there.

The long tube headers will give you twice what a Z-06 upgrade will in terms of HP, compare both with tunes.
