Default Tire Pressure Monitor Life

For those who have replaced your OEM wheels with a new set of wheels, what was your average tire pressure sensor age when you replaced the sensors while replacing the wheels? The OEM sensors on my car are working great right now, I'm just looking replacing the wheels and am considering adding new pressure sensors when the wheels are ordered. I can get aftermarket sensors for about $180 and GM sensors for about $200. For those who have installed aftermarket sensors, are they as good as OEM?

How old & how many miles on the current sensors? Your profile lists a 2001 C5, but I don't think that's what you're referring to. The specs on the C6 Delco sensors claims 8-10 years battery life, but that also depends upon miles driven. The less driven, the longer the battery life. That said, for an '05 thru '08, I would change the sensors. For newer, other than high(er) mileage, you're probably still good. Also, I believe Shrader makes the Delco sensors.

The car is an 08. (I need to update my profile) The previous owner installed different wheels but likely did not replace the sensors. 50,000 miles on the car now. I can look at the sensors to check for a manufacture date when the tires are removed, but that will be too late to order a set and I may be stuck with getting a set from the tire store.

I have found that they last anywhere from three years to 12 years. Not really helpful to you, I know.

At this point if they don't fail before changing the tires, I would replace them at that point. It will be less expensive to do it at the same time as the tire change.

Any way to just use regular valves, and disable the tpms system with a tech-2 so it won't throw a warning? I'm fine checking my tires with a gauge like I've been doing 45 years.

I have seen them good for over ten years. You never know when one may fail but it will usually show on the DIC as zero pressure when it does. Drive until one fails then think about replacing all four.

Well, you can, but you may not know if one of them is low or flat.

my car is a 2007 and the tpms are original per the original owner of the car, so when I need new tires next year, I will be replacing them along with a new set of wheels, the car currently has 51k miles on it

My 2006 C6 will be 12 years old in January, with 44,000 miles. So far all 4 TPS's are still good.

I replaced mine on my '05 at 7 years when I put on new tires, I think the new TPM's were about $40 each...

I replaced my original Goodyears and oem sensors this year on my 2008. I did so because I did not want to have the tires removed because of a bad sensor in the next year or so. I ordered my new sensors from Cultrag Performance on ebay. They were OEM and registered perfectly. $160 for the set. I highly recommend them.

Just replaced at about 70K and 11 years.
Figured it was a good time to do with new tires.

I replaced my sensors months ago when replacing tires. I got AC Delco sensors from rock auto for about 60 bucks each.

My 2005 still has the original sensors at 12.5 years, but then I only have 10,500 miles on it. I plan to replace them when I get new tires just to be safe.

Replaced mine on the 07 last year. About 160,000 miles and 9 years. Bought AC Delcos from Amazon. No programing needed.

Maybe....but what cha gonna do when selling or trade in time comes. Would think youd have to (or should) disclose that the TPS doesn't work cause you yanked out all the sensors. Don't think that would be good for customer relations...LOL. might as well replace them and reap their benefits......
