C6 figure is off just a little. There was a total of 215,375 C6s built instead of the frequently quoted figure of 215,123. The Corvette Black Book did not include the 252 Z06 Carbon Ed Ltd 1LZ.
The average then becomes 23,930.56.

Melting Slicks
I came of age in the early 60s, and the '61-'62 C1s and the C2s were always the definition of "Corvette" in my head. The C3 was the most built Corvette thus far and it was also the highest average production Vette despite the fact that it spanned 15 model years and some of the puniest Corvettes since the '53-'54 Blue Flame 6 powerglide cars. Even my L36 BB '69 was, at best, a mediocre performer. I was amazed to see how few C6s were built in the 9 model years that they represent. In my opinion, they're the best Corvettes built up to that time.

So our rare C6's should be becoming collector items just like those C1's & C2's, right?

There were some pretenders like the Opel GT and the Fiero, but the C3 had the race history, lineage and presence to push them aside.
With the C6 generation, there are more options on the market in both performance and styling. The C6 and certainly C7 do extremely well to hold their edge, but it's just a better buyers market today. There are many more great cars out there today than there were in the 70s.
