Understood... It is definitely fast enough.
I think I can also see the addiction problem coming
Thanks for the input.
Just picked up a great car!
Looking for comments on wether adding a throttle body and cold air intake to a 2008 c6 with the z51 package would be worth the money?
Also, considering adding a performance chip.
Car runs and sounds great as is... Data shows its at 440 hp
Will the above 3 performance enhancements make a noticeable difference?
The only thing they need is a louder exhaust and a better stereo for when taking a break from the exhaust.
IMHO the science behind CAI is not really there, but some love them. You're already packing more HP than 95% of every other car. That being said, it becomes an addiction...

My new owner advice is almost always the same.
1. MGW shifter (if manual, if not see #3). Makes shifting the car way more fun.
2. Cat back exhaust.. Cause it just sounds better.
3. Dyno tune.. Especially if auto. Research local tuners before handing over keys!
4. Sign up for some sort of track time. 1/4, 1/2, 1 mile, autocross, HPDE.. Anything to put the car thru its paces. Then plan on tires, etc to suit your new hobby.
Enjoy!

Sounds like solid advice.
Thank you!

We just had a thread on whether a tune by itself is worth the money for a stock car.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...base-tune.html
I got a tune for my car and it made very minimal improvements (see my post in that thread).
My next mods will be cam and headers. I don't think anything else will make a serious performance improvement until those are done.
GM gave these engines a pretty weak camshaft profile in the Vette. Consider that the LS3 in the C6 makes 430HP and you can get a 525HP LS3 crate engine direct from GM Performance with nothing more than a camshaft change. (That GM cam isn't even that great either. There are better 3rd party cams)

I've got a 2009 Z51 with NPP and it came with a CAI. Recently added the Diablo Intune which really helped since mine's an auto. It feels every bit as fast as higher horse cars I've had, not even sure if I'd want any more right now, although I'm sure I'll get the bug to add a cam and maybe an x-pipe.

I think the aftermarket intakes are very overpriced. Get a Vitesse Throttle Controller and you will enjoy it more than the other mods and save a ton of money. It doesn't give the car more horsepower, but boy does it come on quicker!

wtf is a performance chip? I honestly have no idea, I just assumed people were referring to a tune. Which in that case is not an actual chip, but software uploaded to the ECU through a handheld tuner...
what is a chip?
what is a chip?

Personally, I'd skip any device that gets between you and the throttle (the computer running the throttle body).
Since you are in Palm Desert Calif (Just went through your town last week driving my GS home to Phoenix), I seriously look at upgrading the exhaust with a Z-06 system, the manifold is more of a shorty header and will bolt up to an LS-3. That and a tune should net you about 25hp. A ported throttle body should get a little more - 5 or 6 or so. The intake system on the LS-3 is pretty good beyond that, though there are reported gains with a ported plenum. You didn't say if you had a manual or auto, a tune on the auto transmission will help wake the car up some more.
After that its cam and headers, no telling what that will do to your emissions the state monitors so closely.
Seriously look into track days, hpde will show you that the car has far more performance than what can safely be explored on the street, even with the lack of speed laws on the freeway.

I purchased my 09 6 month ago with the intention of just getting a tune and daily driving it...
BTR-4 Cam
LT Headers
CAI
and E54 later- I wouldn't have it another way... 500/465
Cam and Install $2250
CAI- Used off of craigslist $180
E54 Sensor and Pin $75
Tune $350
$2855 later and I now have a damn near 10 sec car....
The C6 is the best bang for the buck car period!!!
Enjoy!!

This is from an '89 Turbo Trans Am. It plugs into the ECM and is sort of the "brain). It controls fuel, spark, etc. Installing a performance chip would kind of be similar to having a tune on a later model car.

C6 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
If acceleration is the performance you want and you have an automatic, then a higher stall converter and the $2 shroud prop mod are the biggest bangs for the buck. The shroud prop is reversible in minutes to pass emissions when needed.
Depending on the smog station inspector, you may or may not get away with Z06 manifolds, cats, pipes, and mufflers. If you do the Z06 stuff, then get a tune too.
You probably won't gain much over 25 hp with everything, but the acceleration difference is significant. If you do your own mechanical work, you'll drop at least a full second off your 1/4 mile time for less than $2K.
BTW, a ported TB is right next to nothing for the money you'd spend.
