Default Cup holder by a new member

I have had my 2006 Corvette for about a month now. Now I know why I wanted one for so long. I told my wife , How does Chevrolet make such an incredible car and totally bomb the cup holder. I looked around on the internet and still couldn't find anything good. So I took matters into my own hands and made me one. i would love to hear what you Corvette veterans think.

Welcome & congratulations. In regards to the cup holder, although I agree the cup holder could have been better designed, not a fan of your solution. This is primarily due to my main issue being the location & your solution, IMO, highlights that issue. For me the solution was the 'cup buddy'. Relocates where I put my drinks; in easy reach, but out of the way; doesn't get in the passenger's way. Have taken several long trips with my wife & she actually likes where it is. Also have one in my Camaro.

Very cool! I am a drink fanatic when I drive, so I find most cup holders inadequate. This is especially true if you own an European car. In Europe, no one drinks in the car so they don't put in very good cup holders.

I took a different route BC I wanted something portable to move car to car (I have 4 cars) so I came up with this cup holder. Then I really wanted to get to yet another level so I my final solution. I am outfitting my Corvette with the second choice.

Can you point me in the right direction? I have the tan interior and am wondering if I can find your double cup holder in my interior color. Thanks.

There is a base section that I built that fits in the stock cup holder, but mine wouldn't work as well in a manual. It works fine with the Auto. It is very sturdy and the cups haven't spilled yet.

Got mine from RPI Designs: https://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1057

They also offer a painted version, but it's almost twice the price: https://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=5003

I usually just throw one of these in the passenger seat. Works for phones too!

Had the same in my C4, and my C6, comes handy for lot of things besides drinks.
Like your center dash.
They look like Lloyd's mats, looking good.....

Love the Cup Buddy!

I had a double Buddy in black for my Z06, and still have a Cashmere double Buddy in my '05.

This one works for me. It folds up out of the way or I can take it out in seconds.

I have to apologize & correct my previous response as to where I bought mine. It's been over 3 years, but your post reminded me I did buy the one for my Corvette from CCA based on another member's recommendation. Liked it so much, had to find a source (RPI) for one for the Camaro.

to be honest, it seems like it sits too high. Do you have a picture taken from the passenger side?

I would also round off the corners. What about larger mugs that have a handle, they probably wouldn't sit down in the aluminum circles.

Main thing is they work for you so congrats on being innovative.

I just bought two insulated cups that fit in the cupholders.

No big deal.

Having the OEM small cupholder, and using it to hold my cell phone gives me the perfect excuse to say 'NO DRINKS IN THE CAR!'

Having come from a C5 to my C6, I actually find the stock cup holders more than adequate for my needs. I only drink water or use my spillproof coffee cup, both of which are held just fine in the stock holder.
