So what are you talking about ? You talking about the cost of the panels already painted from a GM dealer....etc ? Or are you talking about the panels from GM and then paying to match....etc....? Little better explanation please....

Sorry for the first post, I was on the ipad. Situation is as follows. I am buying the ZR1 widebody kit from Gene Cully for "x" value. This will be the rear quarters, the front bumper cover and the cf fenders plus all hardware. I was then going to have a paint/body shop paint them VY to match the car. Hopefully, they dont need to paint the whole care etc. But so far, I have been quoted between 15-30k to paint the 5 panels. I could see 5-7k but 15-30k? Or am I just completely out of the ball park? Thank you.

For that price, you would think they were quoting for the entire car with a new color. I know paint jobs can be expensive but I would think your 5 to 7k is a realistic amount.

Must be one heckuva paint job. You can buy a lot of brand new cars for $30K.

Really, that is what I was thinking. Then one shop told me they did some old car, that I didnt recognize the name of for 180k just for the paint work. Not the complete restoration.

They are just trying to rip you off.....i know many people that have done complete "SHOW CAR QUALITY" color changes for $15k or less. I think $3-5k for body panels and blemding is pushing it! I mean it's not like they are doing a "show car" paint job.....because it wouldn't match the crap paint job that came from the factory

that is ridiculous. The entire car isn't worth $30K. That guy saw you, or heard you say "Corvette" and $$$$ signs went off in his empty head.

Assuming the panels are primed and perfectly straight, I would be sur;prized if it costs over $3500. I am assuming that you are doing the install. If THEY are doing the install, then it will be quite a bit more.

That's nuts. 2500 to 3500 is more likely.

Are they painting it with moon dust?? I'd laugh in their faces and walk out. You could probably buy their entire operation for that kind of money.
Definitely look elsewhere. I'd guess $500 - $2K would be acceptable/average for that. I doubt the color will match well regardless.

That's insane. For that price they'd better be loaning you the use of their wife/daughter for the duration of the time your car is at the shop.

30 years ago I learned a valuable life lesson from my dad... always get at least 3 quotes. That rule applies whether you are pouring concrete, remodeling a kitchen or painting a car.
Always get 3 quotes. (or more!)

Sounds like your wanting to have the panels painted before install ? If your talking about just painting the panels, then even 5-7-K seems too high. Esp. if the panels are already to go....prime...etc. Now if your wanting the paint shop to install said panels also then you may be getting into the 5-7 K range. Lots of variables cost wise in what your trying to do. Do some research....use some common sense.....and good luck.....

There are many factors that determine the cost of the paint job. Are you wanting to match the new panels to the rest of the car? Are you wanting tp paint the entire car in the original color or change color? A non-OEM paint color can run several hundred dollars a gallon. With any paint job it is based mainly on the labor required to achieve the outcome expected. If changing color or painting the entire car to a show finish be ready to spend major dollars due to the labor involved. Decide on exactly the quality of finish desired and get several quotes from experienced shops. Do it right the first time.

I agree. 10 to 15K for an entire paint job, and a good one.
I was quoted 12K for a complete torch red repaint on my 03
It was from a quality shop.

Well... given what I bet you paid for the body parts and shipping from Culley, and whatever original C6? and now this paint job...sounds to me like you're in the ballpark for a REAL used ZR1. One that will retain its value, won't be a Frankenstein, and be a lot faster...unless you've put some money there too??

I don't mean to be derogatory, but is there something that puts me on the wrong track? Just trying to understand...and if you tell me that you're real joy is doing the project at any cost, then I DO get that.
