How about this variation on the LS2 vs. LS3 debate...
#21
I wanted an LS3 so I bought a 2008. I didn't care if the difference in HP was "19" plus 6 for NPP.

I'd take a drive and see if I liked the Z51 stiff ride.
I wouldn't restrict myself to two cars. There are plenty of really nice used pampered 'vettes around in excellent condition as someone's third car.
Look around until you find what you want.

If the car is a manual the transmission changed on the LS3 cars. 08 also have a different steering feel due to improvements. Its not just about the engine. Not to mention LS3 cars had a nicer interior with Carbon finish vs grey for 05-07 cars.

I'd drive both and see if the difference is worth it to you. It also depends on how you're going to use the car. There's no doubt the 08+ cars had great improvements. Are those improvements worth sacrificing higher miles or more money? That's a question only you can answer.
My car was recently totaled out. It was a LS2 car in Lemans Blue. I decided to replace it with another Lemans Blue vs. going for an 08+ car with the LS3. For the way I use the car 99% of the time 400+ HP is more than enough to get into trouble with.

They are both great engines, so buy the best car for your budget. You know the mantra (trite, but true), buy the lowest milage car with the best "amenities, for your wallet. Unless you are tracking the vehicle, you will be happy with either.

since icecap gave you a lead, I'd say, look it up and make up your own mind after reading 10, 20 or more threads. becomes real easy then.

What tests in particular are you referring to? Post a link that we can see that proves your point

I'd probably pick based on the sort of miles I planned on doing in the car, and also if I intended to build it faster.
If I drive a lot of street miles, I'd choose the one with lower miles.
If I was intending on dropping a few K's in to making it faster, I'd buy the LS3, cause it's going to end up faster for less money.
If the car was just a high performance weekend only car, I wouldn't worry so much about the mileage cause I wouldn't be driving it much either way.
Great cars. Good luck!

Unless there is a huge difference in wear and tear, I'd get the one I like the best. These two cars are very close it would appear. Pick one and don't look back and second guess yourself.

My plan is to go see the black '07 Z51 coupe with manual trans and 21k miles tomorrow after work. I'm leaning toward it at the moment. Maybe I will need to change my avatar after tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
In the end, I have come to the conclusion that 400hp (or 410hp depending on who you talk to) is plenty. Especially since I have nearly gotten in over my head once or twice with the 345hp of my C5.

After months of checking online nearly every night (winter-spring of 2014) I test drove an '09 with 14k miles at a local dealer, thought about it a couple days and called back, but it was gone.
So a few weeks later in May I drove an '07 with 22k miles at another dealer, which I'd seen advertised for several weeks. It was a fully-optioned creampuff (except nav) 3LT so I bought it, no regrets. It wasn't even dolled up when I bought it, but was when I picked it up a week later and they did a superb job. It looked brand new.
It's got plenty of oomph for an old guy that doesn't care that much anymore about being faster than the next guy. The only people who know what HP it is are other Vette owners, and even some of them don't know or care. NONE/ZERO of the women who've ridden in it cared, trust me on that, lol.

Beautiful car Bruze.
I hear you on the women not knowing or caring about hp issue. It's similar to the Rolex effect. Could be a $4000 Air King or a $40,000 white gold GMT Master II. All they know is that Its a Rolex.
