Uh oh! Weird waxy smell. 1040 miles from home
My 2006 started making a weird waxy smell this afternoon. Never had this before and I am over a 1000 miles from home in Indianapolis. I don't have a jack or lift to get under the car can't see any issue from the top.
Any ideas? Anybody in Indy who would take a look with me? Any recommendations on a shop? I had hoped to go home next week, but this smell has me a little spooked.
No obvious drips, but it was wet here today and hard to see. Car has 170,000 miles of mostly interstate and freeway driving.
Cheers,
Rick

I drove over a plastic bag once with my Acura, the bag went under the car and melted onto the exhaust pipe. It smelled "plasticy" for a long time until I finally got under there with a wire brush and scrapped the plastic off...just a thought!

Ditto on the plastic bag one got caught under my z06 right in front of rear wheel on pipe , smelled like what you are saying it was the whole plastic wrapping that 24 or 30 water bottles come packaged in .
Had to jack up car and scrape it off , still smells a little after a long drive.

Add me to the plastic bag theory.
Happened to me, picked-up a plastic bag, stuck on on CC & melted.
Boy, did it stink.
A nice long Interstate drive's just what's needed.
Burn it off, odor will dissipate.

Corvette forum nails it again!
Found a dry parking lot, and managed a peek underneath. There is a black shiny substance stuck to the front of the driver side cat converter. Can't tell what it originally was but definitely plastic.
Thanks guys!

I am in indy and have a jack if you want to come by.
PM me your phone number and I will give you a call if you want to come over and check it out for sure. My jack gets under my 1980 so you should be ok.

Smell is totally gone after 1000 mile trip back to H-town.
New problem. Clutch started acting up in construction traffic coming home. Checked clutch hydraulic reservoir on return, and it was dry! Based on research here it sounds like the slave cylinder. Oh boy, now that looks like a job!

Good news is IF it is slave/MC, word is replacement's fairly easy AND doesn't cost a fortune.
If not DIY labor charge is reasonable, ~1-2 hours.
Replacement's are an improved design and once installed puts brake issue to bed, forever.
