Default California cars

Hi guys, I am thinking about buying a car on EBay from California. Has anyone had any bad experiences with EBay? Also, are there any negatives with buying a car from California because of emissions? I live in New York and I am concerned with selling it here some day. Thanks

I bought my first Corvettte on ebay from a dealer it was painless and I bought a P/u also but was local not as good as described but served its purpose. The only thing with CA cars is they have extra cats on them and there was some type of recall for that

I can't see CA emissions affecting saleability.

I bought a few cars from Ca and at least one on Ebay. Other way around too. Sold a car on Ebay to a guy in CA. No issues coming OUT of CA, but I'd rather not be on the other end.

The extra cats pertain to the 2008-9 emissions recall which added two smaller cats at the mid pipe, the same cats that are on 2012+ C6 corvettes.

The extra cats are not just a California thing, that's nationwide

800 miles sounds like a brand new car. Hard to believe it could be in bad shape with mileage that low. Best thing to do is to have the owner face time you on the Iphone and do a walk around of the car showing you all sections and imperfections. That would ease my mind just a bit. Perhaps have them do a startup video etc.

Recall adds extra cats for those who changed it...

I never did...

and... I'll never buy a car online ever again.

Did it once... NEVER AGAIN

Not an issue emission wise. I bought a C6 in Chicago 4 years ago and got it smogged with no issues in SN Diego. The ebay purchase could be an issue depending on the seller. Do a lot of research.

I believe there is a high sales tax in CA?? I was looking several years ago and it was difficult to get around the tax. I could be wrong but just wanted to throw it out.

NO, it is not. It is MANDATORY in CA, and some other states, but voluntary in most. Here in NV, the DMV does not even ask for proof of that modification. The dealer asks me if I want to do it. I say "no", he says that's fine.

wow...I cannot even count the number of cars I have bought sight unseen on ebay, or elsewhere. I used to buy very nice, high mileage vehicles exclusively for me and my employees. I have probably bought on ebay 10-12 times, all "out of area". I have never been "burned", though two vehicles needed some minor work, which was paid for by the seller in both cases.

I bought my '08 vette sight unseen from a Bay Area dealer. It was exactly as described. I flew up and drove it home, 600 miles.

The extra cats are a nationwide retrofit that Chevrolet will perform for free. This affects the 08 & 09 Corvettes, whether you HAVE to get them installed is up to the individual states, some are more strict than others

There are not cars made specifically for California, simply because of emissions requirements. If it only has 800 miles on it, I would not think it is hurt unless they have been put on it 1/4 mile at a time. More information would be very helpful. I bought a used Lexus from a dealer in St. Louis, Mo., sight unseen, on Ebay. It was exactly as they stated.

I bought my 03 vert on ebay, from a dealer in Olathe, KS when I was in St. Louis. I talked with him and we had an agreement that I could walk away at no cost if it wasn't as represented. It was better than new and only had 1175 miles on it at 3 years old. It was a fun trip home with the top down!

A guy I worked with bought several cars sight unseen and had them shipped. Never had an issue.
