Default Radio project done!

Radio upgrade done! I'm very happy with my new radio in my 2007.

Only had one problem which was the control module box that was shipped to me was defective volume up on steering wheel didn't work. The company I bought the radio from sent me a new module box one on rush delivery.

here is the finished result.

Its still the stock bose system that came with the car so quality wise the difference isn't noticable, but the sound customization options are crazy. It allows each speakers output be adjusted and has an equalizer and a bunch of other options in still trying to learn. I don't know much about sound so I'm really not a good person to ask regarding sound quality.

It is the JVC KW-M730BT. I also went with an option that has no GPS. It does have Andriod Auto and Apply Carplay though so if you need GPS you can use that. Also saved some by not having a DVD player.

I originally wrote off the JVC when I did my research because it didn't have buttons but went to a store and played with the Kenwood, Sony, JVC and Pioneer and found the JVC to be the most user friendly.

did you do the install yourself? i would like to do it myself, not so much to save some money but just to learn how to do it.

My wife and I did the installation 3 times. First time we did it together but we didn't test all the buttons and doesn't find out we had a defective module until later. First time took about an hour. Second time I took it apart to try to find why the steering wheel button didn't work and put the old radio back in which took me about 30 minutes. When we got the new module my wife did it and took about 20 minutes.

We did pay $30 though to have all the harness wiring pre connected to the radio which I think was well worth while.

I initially took the car to the corvette mechanic near me because i thought it would be difficult but he told me he could do the radio but recommend that it was easy enough to do it myself.

the hardest part is learning how the wires in the dash disconnect. If I had to do another one I could easily do it in 20 minutes or less.

Mine is a 2007 Corvette 3LT w/ Bose sound system. The control module works for both bose and non-bose systems though.

Here is a copy and paste of my purchase order from crutchfield.com:

PAC RP5-GM11 Wiring Interface

Metra 95-3304 Dash Kit

JVC KW-M730BT

Crutchfield Advanced ReadyHarness™ Service

The Ready Harness Service is so I didn't have to connect all the individual wires from the radio to the harness myself. If you don't get it you will need wire strippers and connectors to connect a bunch of individual wires yourself. See below.

Vs

I also bought this on amazon:

ICESPRING 2 Ports Dual USB 3.0 Male to USB 3.0 Female AUX Flush Mount Car Mount Extension Cable

I dug up this old thread for you. Should help you or anyone else with an install. It was done by Dennis when he was still a vender here. It was meant for his paying customers but here it is anyway.

Copied and pasted from one of my previous posts:

Here is all the stuff I bought for my install. The Pac Audio harness/interface works with and/or without Bose systems. The installation gear is the same regardless of what brand head unit you buy. In my case I went with the Pioneer 8200nex. I got the head unit and all the installation gear from Amazon.

1- Pac Audio RP5-GM11 wiring harness with steering wheel controls
2- Metra 95-3304 double din face plate
3- Sirius XM SXV300v1 tuner (optional if you want Sirius XM) and Sirius XM 10ft antenna ext. cable (if u want to re-use factory antenna)
4- Pyle PCNM38FRV back up camera (was only $17 but works great)
5- A pack of crimp style cap connectors 22/18 gauge and a crimp plier (since I didn't have one)

You can re-use the existing XM antenna with the cable mentioned but I just want to mention that my SiriusXm reception still stinks. I'm thinking of going to the aftermarket one and trying to find a location for it that will work better.

Crutchfield takes all the guesswork out of doing these things. They prompt you for everything you need, including the chimes & the steering wheel controls, with or without Bose etc.

It's definitely worth paying their wire monkey the $30 to crimp all those connectors too

There's no real guess work, it's the Pac Audio RP5-GM11 harness. Wiring it is just color matching the wires. I agree that Crutchfield can do it, but many times Crutchfield does not have the best prices. If I bought my head unit and gear from Crutchfield, I would of paid an additional $300-400.

thanks, so far every things works better than I hoped it would. Except Andriod Auto. Not sure what Google was thinking, but it's really bad compared to Apple Carplay.

That came out nice, I'm surprised the USB port didn't come with the radio.

USB ports did come with the radio, but they came as a USB extender cable that was just two loose cables. I wanted something that looked more fitted than two wires running through a small hole so I tossed the ones that came with the unit.

I assume you mean from using the maps not gps. Gps does not use any data it provides location signals from satillites. Radios with navigation features have a navigation app and maps that are preloaded so data isn't required. They have a gps antanna the tells the app your cars location.

It sounds odd that carplay would use any more data than maps would usually, theoretically it shouldn't (though I didn't design it or test it so I can't say for sure. Programmers sometimes do odd stuff). Carplay theoretically is just an audio vidio display usb connection transfer. Were you not previously using your phone for maps or perhaps using another map application before carplay? I'm curious to find out as I havn't really used carplay much yet.

On this topic, it would be nice if an app like heremaps was supported on carplay since heremaps doesn't require data since all the maps get saved to your phones memory. I use here maps when i travel since i dont have data or cell service outside the US.
