Default F&@&ing mice!!!

snow is upon us in ny so like each year I do my winterization for the Vette. Go to put the cover on (I put it in the garage, first mistake) and when I grab it from the shelf a freaking mouse jumps out, scared the living daylights out of me. Shoulda heard me scream lol. Anyways the mouse destroyed my cover holes everywhere And I’m not sure where the pesky thing went. Off to the store to buy some traps.
Ps anyone have a cover for sale? Looking for one asap

I parked my Vette in my brothers garage over memorial day and this is what the mice did:

I am currently battling a squirrel problem. Luckily the Vette sleeps in the garage away from harm, but they have chewed some wires and vacuum tubes on top of the engine of my Lincoln twice. I rarely drive it and I live in a remote waterfront area in FL. Now that it's happened twice I am hurriedly trying to find a good repellent. I have 4 friends who have had a similar problems. One of them had wires on the top of the gas tank of his Jeep chewed, necessitating gas tank removal. Mice can ruin upholstery, carpet etc, but squirrels chew just to keep their constantly growing incisors in top condition.

I don't know about squirrels but for mice and stray cats I use mothballs. Drop some around your car, bbq, whatever outside. The ammonia smell seems to keep critters away. I know they have a toxic smell but the cats or mice aren't going to eat them but I really don't care if they do.

Just use some gloves or wash your hands good.

Now they are expensive, but I go to the dollar store etc and grab 20 small boxes at a time. They dissolve in the heat or rain, but in the colder months they can last a few days.

I also put some in my trash cans to keep the flies away.

Honestly it was my fault, i took the cover off and just shoved it on the shelf creating a perfect nest for the pesky mice. Currently I have dryer sheets / traps and moth ***** all around and under the car so if the mouse is still in the garage hopefully he wont go near the car.

Next storage season try putting the new cover in one of those vacuum seal bags. The vacuum sucks out the air and takes up very little space on the shelf.
With the bag being clear plastic you could check it periodically for critters.

Hmm never thought of that. Good Idea

I think I have the garage pretty well protected now, Dryer sheets / moth ***** / Few regular traps / Glue traps.

I picked up a cover on craigslist for a good price so overall not too costly but could have been avoided

You can buy some have a heart metal traps and put peanut butter as bait which they love. I had squirrels in my attic back when I lived in NY. An exterminator caught the family of them and removed them from my house.

Agree completely. Lights out instantly (most of the time). Alternatively, move to southern Arizona, we do not have a storage season!!!!

I've used mothballs on the vett and boats I've stored....good success so far. I just buy a box or two of cheap nylons, cut them up, tie one end and fill with the ***** and tie again...I put them in the engine bay, cockpit and trunk of the Vett......people say they leave a smell but I have never had a problem with them, they air out easily. Maybe put them on a piece of plastic on any carpet area inside. etc.

Check out my youtube channel to get a flavor of where I live (about 20 miles south of Tucson). A lot of people where I live are over the snow and cold!

Whatever you do, don't use D-con or other poisons. I have a friend who did and at least one died in his wall.

If you're parking in a garage, replace all the light bulbs in the garage with LED bulbs (they cost more but use almost no energy) and leave the lights on 24/7. The critters won't go where there is a lot of light and your garage won't smell like grandma's coat closet because of the mothballs.

Cab fresh works good to repel the mice. My hood liner looked like that. I found the mouse nest in the heater fan.

I leave my LED lights on 24/7. Have done so for several years. Don't notice it on my electric bill one bit, and none of the bulbs has burned out yet.

As a side note. You guys that use the hell out of those nasty moth *****....You stink!

Believe it or not, but BOUNCE dryer sheets work incredibly well.
I have one behind each tire and one right under the engine bay. Works great and a cheap fix!
Good luck.
