Got my first ticket today

Valentine 1
So I'm 20 and have had my corvette for about 3 months. Got a super speeder for going 86 in a 65. Not sure about other states, but in Georgia, anything 85 and over is considered a super speeder. I got clocked from a GSP officer that was entering the highway probably 100 yards in front of me but he got me with his rear facing radar. I was surprised he didn't bump it down 2 mph due to my previous clean record and just the fact that he was super understanding and cool about it, but it was my fault for speeding and I can't blame anyone else for that. Either way, I'm looking to buy a radar detector(I know its a little late for that) to maybe avoid this situation in the future. I understand that the best way to avoid this is to drive the speed limit which I normally do, but I still want to have a radar detector. It seems like the valentine 1 is the way to go but if anyone has any suggestions, please inform me.

Also, I was told that since most of the newer cars these days have lane departure, passive speed control, and other safety features that uses the radio frequencies that are in the receive frequency range of a radar detector the radar detector will be alerting you on every car with those safety features as you drive down the road. I'm curious if that is true?
There are some lidar guns with cameras, but they're pretty rare. Usually they shoot you, chase you, and give you a ticket on the spot. Laser jammers are effective against laser. Jammers are illegal in CA, but so is speeding, and the penalties for speeding are far worse. (The penalty for having jammers is an equipment violation, basically a fix it ticket, similar to having window tint that's too dark or not having a front plate.) If you use your jammers properly (quickly slow down and disable your jammers), they won't even know you have them and it's no big deal. Many people have run jammers in CA for years without issue.

I haven't had a speeding ticket since 2004, but the other day I thought that since I put nearly 35k miles a year on the highway, I am due up. I did some research and the new Uniden R3 seems pretty unbeatable. I bought one last week and it was here on Monday.
I figure with a detector, Waze, and my belief of not being the fastest person on the road (always have a rabbit), then I should be able to squeeze another 13 years in with no speeding ticket.

The first one I got in my Vette was 92 in a 55 by a GSP as well. I had to go to court because I was 20 so it was mandatory. The very friendly judge gave me the opportunity to do a report and write an essay about kids under 21 having fatal car accidents. I also took a defensive driving course online that cost $40 and about 3 hours of my time. I entered a nolo plea on my second court date so that removed the points and I didn't have to pay a super speeder. It cost me $875 but no community service or anything like that. Go to court, admit that you were wrong and beg for mercy. Good luck!

Yeah I'm hoping that when I go to court they will have me do community service or a driving class to reduce the points on my license or fine amount. This is what others that I know have gotten super speeders are usually are offered.
Also, I'm expecting my insurance to really nail me after this even if they reduce it to a regular speeding ticket.

The V1 is definitely detectable...
Against the ancient VG-2, the V1 is undetectable, sure, like most other radar detectors.

However, against modern radar detector detectors like the Spectre Elite, the V1 is very detectable.

Thanks for ruining my day.
I like your videos. I subscribe to your channel. Good job.

Escort Max360, in the GS and Escort 9500ix in the Caddy. Buy a GPS enabled detector to block out false signals the new Wi-Fi enabled Max360c is out now as well. If you want a detector undetectable you need the Escort RedLine.

I agree. Radar detectors have saved my bacon hundreds of times over the past 35 years. I laugh at the idiots who say they are useless because the LEOs have instant on radar. On an interstate the LEOs using instant on will hit enough of the cars in front of you that a good detector will pick up the radar far enough out for you to slow down. Often the LEOs that run radar traps are too lazy to use the instant function and just leave the radar running giving a warning a mile or more out. They catch plenty of speeders this way so why bother to work harder. A truly dedicated LEO carefully using instant on very selectively can be an issue. Thankfully few very are that dedicated. The one area that instant can get you is on a two lane twisty road where the LEO is traveling in the opposite direction and hits the instant on as soon as you see one another coming over a hill or around a curve. In areas like that I just slow down.
Using Waze adds another layer of protection especially against laser. Together a good radar detector and Waze along with situational awareness will defeat 95% of speed traps. For the former LEOs that will say this is not true you simply don't know how many times drivers have been alerted and slowed before they went pass you.
