I agree with Hrt vlv's comment above, check out Vortex site, vortexradar.com.

Not affiliated with Uniden myself but the hot unit right now is the Uniden R1 or R3 detectors. The R1 is $299 and the R3 is $399. The R3 has GPS capability for red light cameras and the database. Great blind spot monitoring filtering so your RD isn't always sounding off. Very good but not perfect. Much better than Escort but they're trying to improve.

I just bought one a month or so ago.

Where I live. No contest plea before court you pay the fine and it will stay off your record if you do not receive another moving violation in the following 6 months.

Escort 9500ix here. Saved me MANY times. Long range and weeds out bogus alerts over time.

knock on wood, I haven't been ticketed yet. but try as I might, I know that my driver style will get me one. I have had some good runs down the I-5 in central California that would probably get me arrested.

looking to hear what people recommend on the detector.

First kudos to the OP....(who actually took responsibility for his actions)...psst to those who never go over the speed limit....(REALLY?)

Anyway I agree with those who say to "see the judge"...Heck believe it or not ....they were young once also. I bet you have an excellent chance to reduce the ticket....(I am assuming that in your State they do not have a Safe driving school option to keep it off your record) We have that in my State....

I have had Escort Detectors for many years....and Psst again to the guy who cannot grasp the concept of them paying for themselves...course he is the guy who always obeys the speed limit...right...The detector has saved me a ton, it boils down to personal preference on which is best

I don't speed often but don't see the point of driving a vette if you're not going to stretch its legs from time to time. I enjoy feeling the power when passing for short bursts, for example. Had a few tickets when younger and also suggest getting the ticket "fixed" to a non-moving violation.

Got a Uniden R3 a month ago and love it. Only owned 2 detectors previously, at least 6 years ago so they really can't compare. The R3 has been easy to use and given very good range on the several times there's been a LEO looking for a target. Did a lot of looking/reading including Vortex.

I do not speed in anything under 55 as it's usually residential, city, or there are children around.
Had a BMW M3 come behind me at a high rate of speed. I was doing over 75. My V1 went off and told me the radar was in front of me. I slowed down, the BMW continued at his rate of speed. An Arizona Trooper nailed him a quater mile down the road. That is how it pays for itself. A ticket and court costs, that is lost money!

I've used my Escort Passport for years and would go with Escort again. My last ticket was for the same speed you were going/stopped for in Utah. Oklahoma is the same as Utah where 20+ mph over the posted limit is reckless driving and is very expensive, the Utah state trooper bought my senior citizen/humble approach and reduced the speed on the ticket to 75mph and saved me a ton. Set your cruise control for 5mph over and save your money.

Valentine 1 is what I trust. It has paid for itself many times over the years.

As for this one? Get an attorney. The state just wants your money. I'm sure they can get it converted to a littering charge. Here its only about $500 which is much better than points IMHO.

You did make me laugh when you said the officer was so understanding.

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet because of the snow on the ground but it's warming up here so I might be able to get out soon to try it. Here's the one I bought.
https://www.escortradar.com/redlineex/ I chose this one over their more expensive Max 360's because of the front controls, the 360's have to controls on top which would be difficult to access the way I have mine mounted. I also got this mount made specifically for the Corvette https://store.blendmount.com/blendmo...ries-p358.aspx The mount is very well designed and engineered and looks like it was built with the car.

On a side note, I agree with Cooter Tech's suggestion, at your age this could be a big hit on your insurance. There's a good chance they could get it reduced or even dropped because there's a lot of proof on the inaccuracy of radar. I wish I was 20 again and had a Corvette.
Yup... I was going to say forget about the radar detector because that money (and more) may now be consumed by a steep jump in your insurance premiums if this ticket isn't reduced or dropped. Insurance companies are not too forgiving with a 20 yr. old speeding in a corvette.

Try the Waze app on your phone as a supplement to a radar detector. Other drivers contribute and report when they pass a police car to give you a heads up.

Works pretty good!

I got clocked from a GSP officer that was entering the highway probably 100 yards in front of me but he got me with his rear facing radar. I was surprised he didn't bump it down 2 mph due to my previous clean record and just the fact that he was super understanding and cool about it, but it was my fault for speeding and I can't blame anyone else for that. Either way, I'm looking to buy a radar detector(I know its a little late for that) to maybe avoid this situation in the future. I understand that the best way to avoid this is to drive the speed limit which I normally do, but I still want to have a radar detector. It seems like the valentine 1 is the way to go but if anyone has any suggestions, please inform me.
V1 all the way. And get the Apps for your phone. Google Vortex Radar and follow his instructions to custom program.

Plead "not guilty" and go to court. Best case scenario is you plead to a lesser charge and possibly get no points. I was caught doing 53 in a 35 zone in my C5 many years ago. Met the cop before court and he let me plead to 5mph over the limit with no points. They just want the $$$, it's not about safety.

Sorry to hear about the ticket!

Yeah a good radar detector will make a huge difference. The Uniden R3 is the popular detector to get nowadays. Insanely good performance, excellent false filtering, and a surprisingly reasonable price. There's a couple great detectors to choose from nowadays, including many of Escort's options, so take a look at my guide covering the best radar detectors and it'll walk you through all of the best options.

Something else to consider, since you live in GA. Laser is heavily used in GA. Not only that, but there's a company based out of Norcross (DragonEye) that develops lidar guns with sophisticated anti-jamming technology that will rip through most laser jammers, and because they're based in GA, the guns are used regularly throughout the state.

To defeat all the lidar guns in use around the country, especially the ones in GA, you'll need the AntiLaser Priority. It's the best and most effective laser jammer on the market.

On a wider car, like a Corvette, you've got a lot of surface area to cover so you're going to want 3 heads up front to keep your whole vehicle protected. Take a look at my ALP setup guide and it will walk you through everything you need to know regarding laser jammer installation and setup.

With a good radar detector, laser jammer, and Waze on your phone, you're gonna have one powerhouse of a countermeasure setup.

Georgia mostly uses "instant on" radar and laser, both of which a detector does not help much. And they like their ticket money too.

I have an Escort 9500ix that has saved me for many years, but Waze (the phone app) does an even better job. It's free too

Instant on radar.. so long as you have a rabbit / traffic up ahead to draw the shot before you get close and a sensitive radar detector to pick up instant on radar at a distance, you're alright.

Laser, I suppose it's sort of like instant on since you don't get any advanced warning the way you do with a radar detector.. but that's why you need laser jammers.

Yeah Waze is awesome, especially against laser since police officers have to be stationary to use it.

Against radar, especially when they're driving which is how the OP got his ticket, it wouldn't be of much help.

but that's why having multiple layers of protection are important. Lots of great tools, but no one tool can do it all.

You can almost always get the speed reduced a little if you show up for court. Some times you can get the points reduced too with a higher fine. Not sure a lawyer will actually work in your favor.

Another vote for the Valentine V1. Far superior arrows (direction finder) to anything Passport has to offer. Also another vote for Waze although it's best if you have a co-pilot for that so you can keep your eyes on the road.

Also know your local laws and keep it below those break points where they throw the book at you and throw away the key.

The only problem is the OP is only 20 years old. You can't go in front of a judge and say you have a clean record when you have only been driving 3 years. You have no history to prove you are a law abiding citizen. Now say you were driving 10-15 years with no tickets, different story.

The ooooole, "I don't do it so you are dumb for doing it" argument. You probably also tell homeless people to get jobs and sit down to pee. What do you want? A gold star? "I bought this race-car-replica to drive the speed limit to country kitchen buffet and preach on forums!!!"

I enjoy an ESCORT PASSPORT 9500ix with blendmount and home made power tap. WORTH EVERY CENT! By no means is it a license to speed. But they have every tool at their disposal (for legal extortion), why not have one for yourself?
