Retired LEO....I agree for 1 mph the prosecutor will likely drop it with a guilty plea to a lower speed to save court time.

He may not get the ticket waived but if he gets it bumped down by showing up to court it would be worth it. Would be more worth his time IMO just to get it fixed if that is an option as many have stated.

Get out the milk and cookies for story time, kids...

Granted it's not a speeding ticket, but back when I was 18 (and already had several tickets) I was given a ticket for running a 4-way stop sign - the only stop sign or signal in the tiny town. My buddy lived in a house on the corner and I stopped to let him out, then went on my way and was pulled over by a cop who was sitting around the corner about 2 AM on a Friday night. I decided I would show up at court and dispute it even though the county courthouse that served this tiny town was about 1.5 hours away from where I lived, because many people told me the officers rarely show up. So 18 year old me with a mullet gets dressed up in his "good" sport coat and slacks. The officer did show up. I was "put on the stand" to tell my version and so was the officer, very briefly. Judge let me off. More of a moral victory and may depend on your locale.

Abbreviated version: If I could show up with a mullet and get that ticket waived, 20 yr old OP has a shot at showing up and getting the MPH bumped down to a lesser ticket.

Yes, he certainly CAN go in front of a judge and say that. Lots of drivers under 20 have tickets or accidents on their records. The judge will be impressed that the kid thinks enough to show up and ask for a little mercy.

I, and others, are speaking from experience. At 19, I appeared before a judge, argued my case, and won. But, if you like the "no need to try" idea, you are good to go with that.

Impressed, really? Name one person any age you know that DOESN'T SHOW UP when they get a speeding ticket. And when they do show up try to BS their way thru the ticket.

Man, you are a waste of my time to ask a stupid question like that.

Forget about this, pal....

I have been using a Escort Redline for several years and highly recommend it.
Good luck with the ticket!

I was stopped years ago for 135 mph in a 40, reckless driving, exhibition of speed, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. I had just turned 21 and my girlfriend was 19. The officer found out I was on active duty in the Navy and he was ex-Navy. He wrote me up only for 70 in a 40. I went to court in my dress uniform and my fine was dropped to $25.00.

I was stopped for 107 mph on an onramp to a raised freeway by a motorcycle officer with a radar gun. The top was down on the Corvette and my redheaded wife was giving me what for. The officer asked for my driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. While he was running me, my wife was still giving me what for. He walked back up, smiled, and gave me a verbal warning to keep the speed down. My wife asked why he didn't give me a ticket. I told her he felt sorry for me having to go home with her.

lawyer cost me 200, ticket 25 and i still have a clean record , it would have cost me 250 for the ticket , points on my licence plus insurance points and surcharge for going greater than 15 mph over the speed limit which results in a 3 year insurance surcharge ... lucky for me that it was not a super speeder as that is an additional 400 a year charged by the state

so the lawyer is cheaper , did not want to chance a prosecutor who might be in a bad mood because he was stuck in traffic court

I have an Escort now and I do make it a point to drive slower , especially on 85 where the OP got his ticket

Default Uniden R3

I had used an Escort for over 10 years in my other car, its a solid detector.

Just got the Uniden R3 and it has great set of features and tons of options. Every option is adjustable. It's definitely a big upgrade.

I have turned off X and K band in the options, so only Ka and Laser bands activate the detector warning. No false alarms ever. Every time it goes off, it's a cop.

Check youtube reviews, seems that the Uniden R3 has the greatest range.

It is also a nice compact size, very cool display that is fully adjustable. Also doesn't look as dated as some of the others.

Escort Max 360 plus Waze. The Max 360 really cuts down on the false alerts especially around town.

How does Waze help you if a cop is driving around with his/her radar on?

Go to court, plead not guilty, and request a pre-trial conference with the DA at the same time you are pleading not guilty.

At the end of the session of all the other people pleading guilty or not guilty during that season time period, the DA will sit down with you to go over some options.

Hence is will be playing lets make a deal so the case does not go to court for trial, and will knock the ticket down to something will less points against your license, ending up just paying for that ticket and court fees instead. If your lucky, may must end with something like a obstructed windshield, ending up with something like 1 point against your licsence, with just court cost fees and the price of the obstructed ticket that you will end up paying in the end.

For representation on the ticket, call Alan Shenberg, Esq. 404 325 0062. We went to law school together. This is one of his specialties.

I don’t have a radar detector., haven’t had one since 1988 Don’t believe in them. I am very aware of my surroundings while driving. I do not drive slowly, especially in my Corvette. If you’re paying attention, you should be able to avoid summonses even if you are a super speeder.

Waze lets you know a LEO is in the area before you get into radar range. The radar detector tells you exactly where.

Call one of the ticket clinic places, I have had good success in the past, as well as a lot of people I know. Every instance it was dismissed.
